Don't understand the hatred, considering recent history

So, what's with the overwhelming desire to see NT fail? I mean, I know we've been a, if not the, laughing stock of college football, but I'm seeing some pretty comical remarks puting yourselves on quite a pedistal. The comments about Cougar high are pretty funny, but looking at recent histories, I'm not sure SMU football is in a position to be mocking other programs. While I've been somewhat enthusiastic about your recent success, your program still has a long way to go to get the success that you had back when you had the highest payroll in any level of athletics. I understand it's hard to choke down the fact that you have a gorgeous stadium with an apathetic fan base (you can't sell out your stadium most games either- I imagine its uncomfortable to tie your sweater around your pink polo's with the collar up), but all in all, we're in a similar position that you guys were in when you hired June Jones. Academically you guys are far and away the one to beat in the region, but you guys are not quite ready for prime time either- which was made painfully obvious when you guys were murdered down in College Station.
Enjoy your moderate success in an average at best conference, I would love, however, to see you guys go winless in a major conference.
Unless your alumni plan to donate some serious bucks to get some top level talent, I think 8-5 is the best you guys can hope for.

This is best you can do? And you wonder why we look down on you.

Im being relatively polite. Outside of the TCU/SMU mafia, the only thing SMU is known for is the death penalty, which I'm sure is a great source of pride for you. Your obsession with past glory is almost as grotesque as TAMU's 1938 national championship, which is as irrelevant as your team outside of Texas. Can you be good? Absolutely. Will you ever compete with the giants? No. Any hope you guys had of getting back to the national scene was destroyed when TCU rose to prominence. And, seeing recent comments, I highly doubt SMU will be the factor that determines that, should we ever be looked at for C-USA membership, we don't get in.

No, I'm officer of the day. I'm relegated to a laptop behind a desk.

I want to see the mental gymnastic you went through to get to that conclusion.

Are you a conspiracy theorist? LOL

Congrats on your new Krispy Kreme stadium. Hopefully Houston doesn't score 500 points on your hapless defense.

Your brand of smack is exactly why no one here likes NT. Their fans talk down SMU every chance they get...even though SMU leads the all-time series against NT 28-4-1. When NT decides to deal in reality, we'll respect you guys a little more.

SMU had the highest payroll? you might be shocked to know what went on in those days. We were competitive, that's for sure...but don't assume we had the highest payroll. SMU had a lot of other things going for it as well.

And I'm one of those who does not look down on UNT. I was a neighbor of Hayden Fry's when SMU did him wrong and have supported NTSU ever since Hayden took over and developed a strong football program there.

The fact is that SMU does have a lot of students and alumni caught up in the whole money/image/caste system mentality. Not something I'm proud of being associated with...but UNT (like SMU in it's recent history) has been it's own worst enemy. Too many uncaring students and alumni.

Can we just make the title of this thread, "I don't understand"

We have a mafia? Kick-a$$!! I'll always have a job!!

Good luck going onto another teams forums and wondering why they don't speak well of you. Too bad a college degree (I'm guessing you have one) didn't explain why that happens.

I heard rumors about a certain Italian restaurant, but I just assumed it was a misinformed stereotype.

thank you for your service to our country..and Semper Fi devil dog.

Most SMU folks frankly don't think that much about UNT ( or NTSU as most of us remember )
unless they are on the schedule. We are trying to position ourselves for the next round of the 'BCS shuffle', which we were happily left out of last time around.

If you would take joy at us pulling an 0-fer in a BCS conference, so be it; I would take that as the price of admission to the big dance. I doubt we would be the 'Baylor of the Big 12' in whatever conference we end up in considering the resources that SMU has at hand.

As far as being known only for the Death Penalty, there is a great phrase: 'Improvise and Overcome', something you are no doubt familiar with. We are well on our way to doing both,

Be well and watch your six.
