Game AtmosphereModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Game AtmosphereNobody really made any noise. While we had a decent crowd, it reminded me of a bad High School game with the quiet, dull atmosphere. (everyone with me said the same thing) Had one guy yelling loudly behind me in the second half, and saw about 20 people looking up as if they were annoyed . Sad when one guy yells like he should be, he gets dirty looks. My point is, the three people I was with actually left midway through the 4th (as did a lot of other people around me) because they said they were bored at the game. Not good when it is a close game... I myself am guilty, was still way too hungover to show a lot of enthusiasm .
Can anyone get a video of the horrible PI call? That was an Epic Fail from the midget ref... Edit: the students were pretty loud. They looked enthusiastic
Re: Game AtmosphereI Thought the lower Bowl home side showed damn good fire-stood up every 3rd down. I was about the only one in my section getting uo on 3rd Down in the Upper Bowl. It was pretty frustrated because they converted a bunch of 3rd downs

Re: Game AtmosphereMy wife and I complained about the crowd, too. To be honest, we have a sizeable share of some pretty apathetic fans. It's like they are there just to be seen, and would rather sit the whole game, chat amongst themselves, and occasionally put up Pony Ears and golf clap when they hear the rest of the crowd cheer because apparently something good happened but they missed it.
I'm pretty into the games but was a little distracted tonight because we couldn't score child care for our 4 year old, so she had a lot of my attention. But to be honest, our offense did very little to keep us excited. The loudest I cheered for them was on the first drive, which gave me hope that we might actually stick it to UTEP - but we didn't. They scored ZERO points in the 2nd half, so what did folks have to get excited about? As far as our defense goes, we were getting some pressure on their QB, and yet they still found ways to connect on passes that our QBs certainly have proven they can't seem to hit this season. So it's deflating overall. The 2 people that get consistent cheers? Margus Hunt and JaGared Davis. Props to both of those guys tonight because otherwise, I might have lost interest and finally given in to my daughter's request to take her over to that damned bounce house in the end zone!
Re: Game AtmosphereI really don't have much problem with our students anymore-the ones that come are pretty into it.

Re: Game AtmosphereAgreed. The student section has only gotten bigger and rowdier the last couple years. Great to see that.
Re: Game Atmosphereand they have several organized cheers that look fun and are effective. Dont know where that comes from but it is great to see. More cow bell.
Re: Game AtmosphereI agree that that the second half of the game was pretty boring. The in-game experience is horrid. Particularly the announcer. Examples:(1) "the kick is complete"; and after a first and ten play he announced "gain of four. Second down and 9." But at least he is not encouraging the crowd to make noise when SMU has the ball and is trying to convert a third down like last year.
And all energy left the stadium after the UTEP player was injured. I'm not sure if it was concern for his health, the lethargic play of the team, or the elevator music played during the injury. Personally I believe it was the elevator music. That was a beating. Ponyfans.com voice of reason
Re: Game Atmospheretypical of SMU crowds; with few exceptions through the years, a pretty complacent group for the most part. Hopefully several years of winning football will change that?
Re: Game AtmosphereNo complaints about the students.
Thought the red bleachers on the home side actually seemed rather into the game, but I sit on the east side so others sitting over there can feel free to disagree. Reported attendance: 26,691 ![]()
Re: Game Atmosphereat leastthe game drew better than 25k, which is what we should hope for (at least) every game
Re: Game AtmosphereDoesn't really relate to making noise or anything like that, but the UTEP people around me loved the grassy hill in the south end zone. They thought it was cool people could sit over there, and they were cracking up at all the kids rolling down the hill.

Re: Game AtmosphereI'm hopeful that several years of winning might help educate our fans to the fact they play a role in our team winning on the field; show up and be loud...at the appropriate times
I remember Ford being pretty loud in the opening game against Kansas when we pulled off a goal line stand. Made some noise at times against TCU last year, too
Re: Game AtmosphereI really wondered about the idea of a "white out" until I say the student section which looked pretty impressive in white. I also noticed that it was much more full, with a significant number of students staying for the whole game over previous years. They also let fans down on the field after the game. A lot of players hung around and were signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Game Atmosphere
I do not buy the need to educate anyone about how they can impact the game. They have all been to and seen on TV plenty of games of all kinds. They know a crowd should be loud, they just can't be bothered because they are not that into it. Part of the cause is that the team has not been exciting enough to get them into it, but the bigger issue is as many have said that it is more of a social experience for most. Grant Carter
Re: Game AtmosphereThe girl was incredibly bored in the second half of the game that she was using my phone to get on the internet... But to be fair, even I was really bored in the 3rd and early 4th quarters. Nothing was happening and at that point I knew our team was over hyped, our was coach making ridiculous calls, our WRs were really holding us back and will continue to do so this year, and I lost a lot of my energy and happiness around that time. Blahgh
