Silver Lining awards

Postby mrydel » Sun Sep 11, 2011 7:29 am

Once again, in an effort to try and find something positive out of yesterday, we have the Silver Lining awards.

1. WE WON
2. Zach Line can play on my team forever
3. Beasley made some clutch catches. (This is Silver Lining. No negatives please.)
4. Margus, Margus, Margus
5. Punter while lacking a huge leg, did an excellent job of placement on short punts. Putting UTEP on the 1 yard line was big.
6. Kickoff coverage did not allow a touchdown. Ok that one is a stretch.

Please add to the list. As always, Lakehighlandpony and ponysnob are banned from posting in this thread due to inability to ever find any good in the team. :)

1) Davis and Reed can play on my team forever
2) No crabs or tropical birds came out of the foliage draped around our coaches neck
3) the play calling is 100% likely to get better
4) We will get to see lots of exciting kick returns all year since we can only kick to the 10
5) the back up RB (Williams) looks faster then a drunk sorority pledge
6) student section was big and (mostly) stayed for the entire game
7) we are in CUSA - not the Big 12

Careful now. Some of that is not in the true spirit of the awards. You do not want to be banned also. Students did hang around in decent numbers. I had 3 coeds sitting next to me that left right after the band finished at halftime. I just shook my head. Then, lo and behold, they came back with popcorn and drinks and stayed for the whole game. Kudos to the kids.

Off the silver lining topic, I do agree that is one of the most atrocious things I have ever seen. Reminds me of the old vampire movies where you wore garlic around your neck to ward them off.

Silver Linings only occur in loses.

WE WON. <------ See that period?

Good teams find a way to win when they play bad.

After the game, Junk said his leg is healing faster than predicted. Even though he was dressed for the game (no boot), we won without playing him not risking further injury.

Not that I'm on the committee, but shouldn't we reserve this for losses?
Finding silver linings in wins seems really odd.

We're 13-4 in our last 17 CUSA games. We've won our last 3 CUSA openers. That's at least sterling-silvery.

Silver Line #2: The first couple minutes of that game were exactly what we wanted. Great field position, 6 play TD drive with a 40 yard run in like, what, two minutes. Then, three plays later, an INT returned to their 2 yard line. Granted, Smith (or Scott?) badly pushed off the receiver, which is too bad because I think he could have made that pick regardless- he had the route read, and jumped it, and had inside position on the receiver.
