Maybe I'm crazy, but give June a break

Full disclosure: This is a rant. While being a "newbie" here, i have lurked for a few years and have had season tickets for more than 6 years. So, I "lived" through the lean years. That said, some of the comments here about June are over the top, and we need to support June or whomever is the coach. He has a hard job and earns his money (if anything he is underpaid):
1) This is not the NFL where you can draft ES - he has to develop ES from high school. When he came to SMU, we were ecstatic to get a 3 star recruit. Now, we are in the top 50 (or so) recruiting classes.
2) This is not high school/select leagues. He has to thread the needle of athletic and academic abilities - we are more like Stanford, Duke, and Northwestern than UT. As faculty at SMU, we want our athletes to be students. We don't have courses in "under water basket weaving."
3) The athletes are kids.. They will have off days, they will under perform on occasion. June will (and is) measured on his ability to get the kids to perform at or above their ability. IMHO, he has done a great job over the past few years. Has he made mistakes? Of course! However, the question is whether or not we are better off today than we were a few years ago? Could we have gotten a pre-commitment from a 5-star QB 3 years ago? or a 4-star WR 3 years ago?
4) the question that always seems to be posted is whether or not we could have done better than JJ? Are you serious? Think about t. we had Forrest Gregg as a coach. The administration has made a commitment to athletics and we need to get behind them.

i'm not saying that he couldn't have done better in any game (UTEP was pretty bad). But we should recognize and support the talent we have.

i dont recall seeing anyone think we could have done better then JJ. On the contrary there was overwhelming happy surprise we were able to get him to come here.

Can you direct me to a post that says otherwise?

Under water basket weaving would seem to be a pretty difficult class to actually complete. Never seen someone weave a basket under water (Just kidding). And he has more admissions flexibility than any other coach here so he should do better even by his own statements (see Stallion's sig). Now I do think Coach Jones will get us where we need to be but it will be in about 3 or 4 years from now.

We have all been [deleted] and moaning at JJ for awhile now...

i.e.
Where's the Shoot in the R & S?
How many coaches did JJ leave in Hawaii?
Why does the QB have to run to the sideline to get the play from JJ?
Why does JJ play KP?
Why does JJ NOT play KP?
Why hasn't JJ got us to a BCS Bowl since he did it for Hawaiʻi?
Why are we still in CUSA and not an AQ Conference?
et al

Just be glad we have JJ as you could have the Lanster like my Trojans do!

Let's evaluate at the end of the season. 2008 1-11 (not his fault), 2009 8-5 (Bowl victory, give him credit, 2010 7-7 another bowl game (although lose it because the team isn't motivated. Conf championship game, give him credit. 2011 1-1, 2 horrible games, pull his butt and get another. Too quick you say? What about the past success? Oh yeah, we're talking about Jones and not Kp. Get my drift? Kp wasn't part of 2008.

It comes with the territory. I think he is one of the more respected and liked people around, especially for those who know him. Football is a wonderful fan sport and part of the tradition is questioning why things are done during a game. If it wasn't this way then it would be like the drudgery of baseball or the individualism of basketball. It sometimes is criticism but Mac Brown and every other coach faces it. Anyone who gets his feelings hurt from something on the internet doesn't deserve to be in the game anyway. For all we know it could be someone from TCU posting trying to upset everyone. My only wish is that he would be more open and do more interviews than leaving it to Rhinebolt and others thoughts. I want to know the genius behind the run and shoot and how he has ascended to this position. Yes, I read his book. The alternative is indifference.

How about everyone go re-watch the TV broadcast of the game. The DC for the Miners comes on and talks about the lack of respect that Mike Price gets in El Paso. Summarized: UTEP sucks forever, Mike Price comes in and takes UTEP to a couple bowls and wins games. No one in El Paso respects Mike Price.

Insert June Jones for Mike Price....... same story here in Dallas.

Why have a message board if you can only discuss positives. Had we blown out UTEP 63-15 like we should have, this would be a very positive place. Would you then complain that everyone is giving June a pass?

We should not have blown UTEP out but 63-whatever. They are not that bad. We made mistakes, especially in the 2nd half, that killed drive after drive, and no thanks to the refs.

Price has recruited like crap lately. He came in great and brought in a lot of transfers. Don't look for great things from UTEP over the coming years.

June on the other hand is recruiting better and better. There is a big difference.
