I haven't paid enough attention to his play. Opinions? He's certainly looks the part!

His size helps him a lot and I think he is poised for a solid year. I still think he is a bit overrated but not by much. He had fewer tackles than Margus in all depts save sacks last year, but like Peruna said his presence demands respect from defenses which allows our lb's to make some plays.

He is seeing a lot of double teams this year. We really need the other rushers to step it up and make plays. He is occupying a couple of blockers and it should free up others. He looks very athletic so far this year. I hope he starts to look a bit better against the run.

I thought the defense looked much productive with Frazier and Hunt in with Thompson. Taylor definitely gets a lot of attention by the opposing coaches and linemen and that is a good thing for our defense. Always taking a double team is a hard way to make a living but is indicative of what type of player you are. I for one am glad Thompson is on our team! He's a beast.

I'm perfectly fine with Taylor drawing the double if it means JG gets 1 on 1. He is too quick for a tackle and too strong for a back.

Physically impressive and should have a good shot at the pros. You would think he would dominate more but upside is huge. I wonder if he can still play te.

True — he barely blinked while running over the UTEP running back en route to the quarterback on the game-sealing touchdown.

In the 3/4 defense Hunt and Frazier are also drawing doubles on most plays. Because this defense is designed for the line backers to make all the tackles it is difficult for Thompson, Frazier and Hunt to make many tackles and get sacks. I was relegated to listening to the radio broadcast for the last 2 games and Hunt's name was mentioned only on the blocked kicks and I heard Frazier and Thompson's name no more than 3 times in either game. At the same time the announcers, particularly in the second half of the UTEP game, constantly mentioned excellent defensive pressure. It is tough to really appreciate their effectiveness.

The pressure from the outside was good all game. But the QB kept stepping up in the pocket and was able to find his receivers and hit them. In the second half, Mason said he had Taylor Reed spy on the QB and that is when he could not just step up any longer. Reed even got a sack or two.

Thompson is having an effective season.
