What are your thoughts about employing a package of a pro-style offense. I can only imagine how good Line would look with a downhill start and play action passes off his running game. Thoughts????

In some ways the current situation for Line is like the I backfield. The ball carrier gets the ball deep and has time to let blocks develop and read where the opening is. I don't see any real advantage for Line as he is a patient runner and lets blocks develop.

He gets a lot of his yards cause the line does a good job reading coverage, and Line then does a good job reading their reads.

You can fantasize about a "pro-style" offense all you want, but June Jones has been wedded to the R&S since he was at Portland State back in the 1970's. He coached it in the USFL, the NFL and college since the early 1980's. He's not going to suddenly change. Also, it should be noted that spreading the field leaves the D w/ 4 or 5 in the box most downs, sometimes, 6. This creates open lanes for the RB to run through.

Not saying Line wouldn't be good in a Pro-Style scheme, but the R&S has always had tremendous production from their RB's. Going back to the Houston Gamblers, the Oilers, Lions and Falcons, even Hawaii had Nate Ilaoa who had 990 yards rushing on just 131 carries, a 7.6 avg. In 1993, Gary Brown had 1002 yards despite starting just 8 games for the Oilers. He averaged 5.1 per carry.

Jones isn't going to change and based on the history of the RB's in the R&S, he doesn't need to.

agree. JJ's not changing his whole offensive philosophy for Line, just changing QB's.

The question isnt that crazy, considering how bad the offense has been for 4 games in a row...

Dr Death is right on...a huge reason why running backs are so productive in the R&S is because of the advantage in numbers it creates with only being able to have 4 or 5 in the box...with our 5 OL its pretty much hat on hat

Its only a suggestion of a package to be included within the run and shoot offense.

I think you will see some option though. That has been tried on periodically.

I'm surprised at the lack of shovel passes and WR screens/swing passes. I thought that was a major staple of the RnS, but then again i barely watched a game of June's at Hawaii.

Might be an execution/personnel issue, the few times I have seen shovel and screen passes run during the Jones era they haven't worked very well.

the shovel pass has worked a bunch in the last 2 years. SMU has thrown several bubble screens to Beasley. In fact 2/3rds of his catches are caught within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage.

you hire june for one thing and one thing only-the run and shoot. he has a great track record with it. are some of you guys high?
