SMU's Small Sliver of Hope in a BCS World

Postby Stallion » Wed Sep 14, 2011 2:38 pm

assume Texas insists on the LHN or other Conferences are unwilling to accept Texas without modifications. Been pondering this possibility for awhile:

I've thought the same thing all along. If Texas insists on keeping the LHN this is there best option. They keep their revenue and make life easier on themselves schedule wise compared to scheduling as an independent. Additionally, since there conference schedule is easier they can go back to playing OU, Arkansas, and Texas A&M in non-conference games. Best of both worlds for UT. UT looks good too because it extends an olive branch to SMU, TCU, Rice, and Houston.

Plus they add Texas teams to boast interest among Texas cable subscribers. Think of it as as The Non-Conference Conference. They play the weak Texas teams they would usually play non-conference in Conference but retain the OUs, A&Ms and say ND or USC or BYUs for their enhanced non-conference. Plus they dictate keeping all the Money.

I'd like if I was UT. Think of it, all you have to do is beat OU and your basically in the national championship game talk and definitely a BCS bowl. Couldn't be an easier route outside of ND.

LOL. This isn't remotely possible. Texas would go independent before being in the SWC 2.0 and having to compete with in state stepsisters for recruits. Best chance for us is a proactive, cooperative merger of Big 12 leftovers, MWC, and CUSA. The conference could look this:

Texas Tech - SMU - Houston - TCU - Tulsa - Baylor

Boise State- Air Force - Nevada- Fresno State - K State - Iowa State

That's pretty interesting.

If we do go this route, we need to make sure there is language in the conference contract that we can start PonyTV or the Peruna Network

I heard the proposed rate for the LHN is $0.40/subscriber. We could make a couple hundred more bucks a month

Can I have my own Show? I'd like to do a Stallion's Red River Post Game Celebration.

I guess you missed the thread where we discussed having a film crew follow you around and possibly have a rose ceremony at the end to see which behemoth you go home with.

Why would the OUs, and Tamus of the world schedule UT non-conference? Their conference schedules will be strong enough to not need to schedule a non-conference game against an opponent that might beat them.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

that could be one of the many reasons this won't happen although there will be huge financial and political pressure to retain those games-what I'm saying is that SMU doesn't really have any legitimate shot at any other scenario as far as I can tell ror BCS inclusion. That MWC/CUSA/Big 12 Leftovers Conference would be a step up-I don't see the Leftover Conference looking that good or being BCS when all the Music stops.

UT is greedy, but not stupid. No matter what happens they will come out of all this with their own network and sitting atop a giant mountain of cash [deleted] down on the rest of college football. However, they will never allow themselves to be in a conference again with SMU, Houston, Rice, etc. There is no incentive whatsoever for them to do this. If push came to shove and no conference would accept them with the LHN, then UT would simply go independent. It certainly isnt their desire to do so, but it won't destroy them either. This is where SMU needs to be creative in the wake of the fallout of the Big 12. If everything goes as predicted (which is premature at best) then the Big 12 will be left with the following:

Texas Tech, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State.

I see Kansas going Big East and Missouri going to any combination of SEC, Big 10, ACC, or Big East. Then you are left with Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, and Iowa State.

If SMU is in front of all of this, the best case scenario would be to invite all of the leftover Big 12 teams and several of the top MWC teams.

CUSA West - Boise State, Air Force, Nevada, Fresno State, Texas Tech, San Diego State
CUSA East - SMU, Houston, Baylor, Tulsa, Kansas State, Iowa State
