Not saying it's a defining characteristic, but everyone is saying Padron's arm strength is better than McDermott's.
I seem to remember practice reports that said the opposite. Am I "misremembering?"

I think JJM has very good arm strength. It seems to me he has kind of a wind up that gives him a slower release than perhaps desired, but the arm strength seems good.

Not that you said anything about arm strength being a defining characteristic for QB's, but I thought I would touch on this subject a bit. For one, NFL scouts get all misty-eyed over a guy who has a strong arm... look no further than the total waste of flesh that was JaMarcus Russell. However, guys like Joe Montana and Rich Gannon have proven that arm strength doesn't matter. Accuracy, leadership, the ability to lead a team from behind, the ability to elevate those around him, proper technique... {footwork, etc.} are the more important things.
In the R&S you want a QB who is accurate, can read the defense and make quick decisions and can get rid of the ball quickly. This is where Colt Brennan elevated himself over so many others who played in this system. Probably only Jeff George was as accurate and had as quick of a delivery.
So... I wouldn't worry about arm strength... accuracy, leadership, decision making, release and the ability to play at his best when the game is on the line are the top priorities. Or at least, they should be. Now if you find a guy who has all that plus a great arm... then fine. But there's only so many Dan Marino's and John Elway's that come along.

The main thing that drives me crazy about McD is how he stares down the receivers for a good 5 seconds before he throws to them. Gotta be the biggest telegrapher I've seen.

That's so wrong....On Monday film lunch, we watched how Mc was checking off the options, all the time knowing he was going the other way....You must be thinking of KP, as he always stares down the WR.

Perhaps he improved on this over the course of the last 2 games but it was incredibly noticeable in the a&m game. I still saw it some last game but maybe I was mistaken. I hope we have someone who can go through the progression.

Ya think he may have been just a little nervous? He still rated a QB rating of 134.22 against a tough TAMU D at their place in front of 86,000 fans...

Dr death. I'm with you. I think arm strength is a overrated especially in what I've learned about this offense.
Smu 2007, I don't want to come off as a Kyle basher, because that wasn't my intention in all this, but have you watched any games over the past year? Maybe it's part of the offense that The qb is watching a receiver waiting for him to make his read and get open, but based on what I've seen McDermott does much less telegraphing than Kyle.

I think we will have accuracy and quick release when Printz gets here. I have never been one to be totally impressed with players' film clips because I never know the competition, but it is easy to watch a QBs release time and Printz has what we are looking for. I am happy to watch our projects now, and maybe Preston or Kaiser will be great, but I know that when Printz gets here we will have our QB as soon as they can get him primed and ready and up to speed on the offense.

I changed his QB rating it was a 134.22 vs TAMU...pretty damn good if you ask me for a first time big game....

Seems to me KP is worse about staring down receivers.

Most of the passes in the R&S are not missiles lunched across the field of bombs way down the field. They seem to be short or medium range passes. Accuracy and correct reads are the keys to a successful offense. We haven't had a Farve like arm perhaps ever but have had very successful passer. Either Padron or JJ McD can succeed in this offense as long as they make correct reads and deliver an accurate ball. Accuracy seems to be our biggest issue overall for our QBs of late and hopefully one or both will improve that before we hit the really difficult part of our schedule.

that space between the earlobes is pretty important.
