Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?From today's front Page of Dallas Morning News and Rick Gosselin.
For the attorney's out there, if some teams out of a possible 120 D-1 schools, don't make it into a proposed Super Conference, do these schools have a strong case for a Class Action Lawsuit? Could they tie up the conferences in court for years?.....June Jones had a interesting point at the last lunch and said the non- BCS schools should just go make it a Spring Football League and not ever play the BCS schools and have their own TV contract and playoff system and F the BCS schools. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/column ... ft-out.ece 'If super conferences emerge, some schools won’t make the cut' Rick Gosselin [email protected] Published: 16 September 2011 11:40 PM UNIVERSITY PARK — The concept of a super conference may be appealing to perennial football powers Texas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. They will always have a seat at that table. But the formation of such conferences isn’t necessarily in the best interests of college football in general. The sport’s future likely includes four 16-team super conferences: the Pac-12, Big 10, SEC and a collection of leftover Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference teams. There are 120 schools competing at the BCS level. Failure to land a spot in one of the super conferences could doom almost half the schools playing football in the NCAA’s top tier to a second-class existence. By the time the super conferences finish choosing up sides, there will be 56 colleges left over. That could leave schools such as Baylor, Boise State, BYU, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville and SMU without a BCS home. And you wonder why Baylor is fighting the demise of the Big 12 with such vigor? SMU isn’t going quietly, either. If the Big 12 is going to survive, the Mustangs want back in. If the Big 12 isn’t going to survive — Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State all seemingly have their bags packed — SMU still wants one of the 64 super conference spots. “We felt now was a good time to step out publicly,†SMU athletic director Steve Orsini said. “We have a lot of positive things to sell. Obviously, the landscape is unstable right now. So let’s see if we can add value to make that landscape more stable. We think we have a great situation here to do that.â€.............. Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?I think Gosselin's 16 team / 4 divisions is correct in the paper....looks about right to me.
SEC Pac 16 Big 16 BE TCU in BE with Baylor left out in the cold with Boise, Cinn, Lousville, SMU Last edited by GiddyUp on Sat Sep 17, 2011 11:34 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?
he had: SEC Big East BIG16 PAC16 Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?correct, typo
I don't see Iowa State on his list either.
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?If something like this happens, many, many schools will be left outside looking in. There should be a huge legal case pending.....
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?
It does leave a lot of schools out in the dark - perhaps another "Superconference" -( I hate that word)...that would have a playoff game to get AQ status for a BCS bowl game? what a mess!
Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?Only issue is big east is already Falling apart...
Syracuse and pitt just submitted apps for acc
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?You are seeing the effects of the BCS monopoly. You could have predicted this the day the BCS was born. Its played out exacty like that Children game where the are 120 children but only 64 chairs. One thing could have slowed this-a championship playoff with the champion of every conference advancing.

"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?
what will happen is what's left of the BE/ACC after the BIGandSEC have plucked who they want, will form the 4th conf. call it whatever. EACC+FtW. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?
As an attorney..what ARE the legal options for those that are left out? Is there precedent for something like this?
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?
doesn't matter - it will either be ACC or BE
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?
How cool would it be to see the Big East crumble just as Froggy High gets there? I really shouldn't drink and type.
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?I'm not sure that we are looking at this correctly. I think we could start a new SWC and get rivalries and tons of interest, defy the BCS - have a playoff with someone in another conference left out and proclaim the winner NATIONAL CHAMPION. Kind of like what the AFL did to the NFL. I think the recruiting would be better because families could see their kids play more games, etc. The SWC could be SMU, BAYLOR, TULSA, HOUSTON, TULANE, UTEP, RICE and SAN ANTONIO. You would have DALLAS, SAT, HOUSTON and NEW ORLEANS television audiences not to mention EL PASO, WACO and TULSA which should also be decent. I say TEXAS, TT, OU, OSU, TCU and A&M are going to loose local and state interest (all thought they will gain national money, etc.) I would not be surprised if law suits and loss of local fans etc. doesn't destroy the super-conferences. As an example, TEXAS A&M will have a much harder time being considered a powerhouse team. They will be looked at as average or maby below average.
Re: Looking To Join The Big Boys?---DMN today-Thoughts?It might help if I reviewed my spelling! Sorry for the above!
