Give Us A Break

I don't know how it will shake out but there is opportunity out there to reunite SMU, TCU, Baylor and Houston somewhere -more-perhaps . I don't know if it is in CUSA or a Southwestern pod of the MWC-16. But right now that would be a great outcome. I personally would like to see Southern Miss in that group and if enough space is availiable I'd be happy with Tulsa. Actually wish those schools formed their own conference. I think the MWC should seriously think about moving into Texas RIGHT NOW. This ain't 1994-all these schools have shown a commitment to the Football program(assuming Houston gets that Football stadium built)

I agree...mwc needs to get aggressive right now and put another dent in big east....expand into Texas and leave 2 spots open, 1 for tcu when big east falls, and 1 for next best team...

I don't think the MWC is the alpha in this. I don't think you want to stick yourself with New Mexico and Wyoming right now and not be able to get rid of them later. Its more likely and attractive to me that the Big 12 remnants plus us, TCU and Houston form a core that picks off Boise State and Air Force in the west, and Louisville in the mideast.

could be-I'm not sure how its gets done just hope it does. Air Force ought to be all over this-they get a huge percentage of players from Texas. I'd love to pull them away from the MWC too to add to the teams listed above but its going to be tough. As long as we could have a Southwestern pod it would be OK. Boise could be a factor in this too. A reconstituted Big 12 will need Dallas, Ft Worth and Houston

I really feel like we are going to end up with some of the best in CUSA and MWC lumped together with the some of the leftovers of the Big East and Big 12. It makes more sense to start a new conference since you can pick and choose teams from the chaos. It should make for a much better TV deal than what CUSA and MWC has. The MWC tv deal is abismal.

Yeah but what happens if the Big East completely disappears-SMU may barely get in if SMU is lucky. Start adding up all the remnants-Missouri?, Kansas, K-State, Iowa St, Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia?, UCONN, Rutgers, USF, Baylor, TCU, then what about Air Force, Boise, Colorado St-how much room is left for SMU, UH. Southern Miss? Tulsa? UCF? They better go BIG or split them in half East/West and we better be in that group or Nick is right-we are really really screwed.

Say what you guys will about Baylor, TCU, and Houston, but I would LOVE to play them at a consistent level in a new conference. I say the time to swallow your pride is now. It's solidarity or death - it really is about to get to that level. Either we accommodate those who we call our rivals and all live together, or continue in this dog-eat-dog world where all 4 of these schools are at a risk of living in obscurity. I would love for the MWC to get it's [deleted] together and go into Texas. TCU, Air Force, SMU, Houston, Baylor, Boise State, Hawaii, and a few others would make for a great football conference.

does anyone actually know the process for starting a "new" conference? I have to believe it is easier to keep a conference together, say if 5 are left in the big 12, and add new members than it is to actually start a new conference. I remember reading that a conference keeps their bcs status if they have 5 original members, or something like that. Of course, I might be remembering wrong.
Would love to hear someone explain the process, if you know what it is.

yeah, if West Virginia is not the 14th team in the SEC, or the next replacement for somebody like FSU leaving the ACC, then the dynamic changes. WVU would pull the power to the east instead of with the Big12 remnants. We gotta hope WVU lands in the ACC or SEC i think.

This kinda still comes down to which coast the Horns end up on. I think our best chance is for them to go to the PAC and have the ACC, SEC, Big 10 gobble up a few of those remnants to ensure that we will be in a better situation.

Most of the Texas sources like Chip Brown, Kirk Bohls etc are saying PAC 16 this morning. Texas must keep TECH, OU and Oklahoma St together or they will regret it for years to come on the recruiting front. This will be SEC Country in recruiting if Texas does something stupid like go to the ACC all alone

i sort of think there could be 18 spots in the 'left over' conference. if you have a league stretching from Connecticut to Idaho,18 teams with no cross-overs and an 8 game league schedule works pretty well. Need more teams in the leftover league to lobby for BCS access. Who woulda thunk the WAC 16 was ahead of its time.

I totally agree, I think the ACC deal is just posturing by Texas to get more leverage in their attempt to keep the LHN as is. The ACC has already stated interest in UCONN and Rutgers. It looks like UCONN's application to ACC is going to happen very soon.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... ource-saysI think that West Virginia is set for the SEC. South Florida, TCU, Louisville and Cincinnati are going be left by themselves. I can't see the the BIG 10 or SEC wanting them. The ACC might take one of them if the SEC steals a team from ACC.

Let's see what we have.
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Missouri
Baylor
TCU
SMU
Houston
Tulsa
Air Force
Boise State
BYU
Colorado State
Cincy, Louisville, or somebody else.
Huh.
14 schools. Geographically compatible. Rivalries. Decent football and basketball. Above average academics, actually.
Does that sound like a BCS conference? Any way we can get the PAC 12 to veto Tech or OSU?
