Good article. A conference like he suggests would resemble the old SWC. It is really sad to see so many old rivalries being destroyed.
GO PONIES!!!

I can't help but feel that articles like that continue to fall on deaf ears.

That's why in a matter of years, college football will become the NFL light and will become more irrelevant than more. Rivalries are what make the sport interesting. Rivalries are what make a game interesting even when a team is 1-9. The game matters to them, their fans, and the bragging right it brings. No one is going to care who A$M is playing if they are having a down year. Once they are out of a national or conference race they will become irrelevant. No game like UT that they can get everyone (I mean nationally here) can get excited about and wanting to watch. Currently, they can do that. That game still has meaning no matter the records. Sad direction we are going.

Yeah, can't wait for TAMU vs. Vandy and UT vs. Wash st and OU vs Cal and OSU vs. OSU... Those rivalries are really compelling. Insert sarcasm here.

PAC16 will have monster ratings. Cal and Texas two most populous states and the southwest is where the growth will be

I don't deny they won't have great ratings. I don't deny they won't make piles of money. Doesn't mean its good football or TV. Doesn't make it anymore compelling for the casual fan (or a fan of those schools) to watch a 7-4 Oregon State team take on a 6-5 Oklahoma State team fighting over who goes to the Insight.com Bowl. That's only interesting to us degenerative gamblers out there.
Just because it makes tons of money (for some schools and really for the networks), doesn't mean its better than the rivalries they are drowning to make the money. I loathe ESPN!

My feelings exactly. No denying ratings, but overall will they increase v. what they are now? Will MORE people watch the game if TU v. OU are Pac16 than they did when they are Big12? I doubt it. College football is pretty popular as it is.

this has nothing to do with the "fans" other than the TV watching/paying fans

SMU to the Pac 16! We can compete with USC (Adrian Klemm!) and, plus, I'll be able to get to more games as I live in SoCal.

Also, a Stanford/SMU rivalry would be fun ...

too bad college football would fight a farm system, it would give a lot of kids who can't cut it academically a chance to develop their talents for the NFL. Mark Cuban's probably been working on it for 15 years

Everyone has a good point. Hell, I just wish OU and A&M would let UT go to the ACC, the Big 12 would still be the No. 2 football conference in the country by backfilling with TCU, Houston, SMU and one other.
