Joe Schad likes to hear himself talk. I don't think ND is going to have a tough go at realignment if they are "forced" to give up indy status. To me, ACC makes sense for them.

No way will their alumni allow them to go anywhere but big 10 if they are joining conference...chicago is a mecca for ND alum, they arent going to be in a conference with ACC teams...

Agreed - Big 10 would be where ND fits best. That being said, I dont see them making a move right now.

Nick- totally agree. ND is a much better fit for the b10 than ACC both geographically and culturally. They already have some rivalries with b10 teams and not so with ACC.
GO PONIES!!!

But ND recruits in primarily MD, PA, NY, NJ and New England. Yes, they also recruit OH, Chicago and LA, but their bread and butter is the east. That's why their "all sports" has been in the BE. The ACC now that its added Pitt and Syracuse and if it adds either Rutgers or UConn gives them exactly what they want. MD, BC, Pitt, Syracuse, high academics. However, the ACC statement gives them some extra leverage with the BIG that they wouldn't have had if the BIG wants them. The ACC is all in for UT and ND.

Based on current performance maybe ND needs to switch recruiting areas....
Acc will not be getting UT or ND....I expect them to add UConn and rutgers...
ND will either be indy or Big 10...too many big money donors here that wont want to discuss ND Duke football around the water cooler when they can talk ND Nebraska/michigan. ohio st.

Nick, what does joining the Big 10 do for Notre Dame? They already recruit the Catholic League of Chicago. Being in the Big 10 makes ND a regional school which is what they loath and there are not enough great football players in the Midwest to go around. Notre Dame wants to stay national, and they need to recruit California, Texas and Florida. I could see them going ACC because of Florida recruiting and Duke, UVA, Wake Forest are palatable to them academically. But i have to think they would rather stay indy over any other option. Having said that, if ND wants to get back into the top 5 nationally, they need to re-kindle their Texas recruiting. They need a few more Tim Browns.

An article on ESPN's front page also suggests that if ND goes to a conference, the ACC will be the first choice. I find it hard to believe and think that their alumni would not be in favor of it at all. Please give up on football recruiting having a significant role in conference realignment. First and foremost is money. After that it is location, reputation and academics, in no particular order. Recruiting comes after those.
The reason that ND to the ACC makes some sense is there are a few schools that are similar to ND, whereas in the Big 10 only has NU that is similar from a university standpoint.

ND is controlled by the alums...the largest alums are all here in chicago....
There is no way these guys are going to let ND football schedule Duke, wake, virginia, ect.
when everyone in their office are big 10 guys...just not going to happen...

I would find it more believable to learn Notre Dame was seeking a limited affiliation with the ACC, such as they now have with the Big East.
That being said, I believe the ACC would never accept such a proposal.
