WR's

Postby GiddyUp » Wed Sep 21, 2011 7:43 pm

These numbers need to improve soon. Beez is the only one doing much. Thompson has yet to catch a ball. Blame it on QB play but ..only one TD pass in 3 games. Ouch.

Cole Beasley 28 326
Darius Johnson 17 282
Terrance Wilkerson 9 152
Keenan Holman 4 99

Beasley is a possession receiver who cannot catch the long pass. Where are the larger wideouts everyone else seems to have?

You are correct, and he is getting all the looks. Pretty soon our opponents will double team him..

I think defenses are going to shorten the field and clog the inside receiving routes. Make SMU prove they can beat you deep. They will let Beasley run his 3-5 yard passing routes all day-he'll need to make some plays against quality competition. There is hardly any threat from the Outside Receivers on this team-not sure I've ever seen a passing team this unbalanced. I know the consensus is that McDerrmott is quicker in making his reads-I guess right now he's reading that our opponents can't cover our Inside Receivers because those are the only ones getting the ball. Haven't proved we have a quality deep threat yet. I'm pretty sure there will be adjustments by our opponents based upon the scouting films of our games so far.

Darius caught a 41 yard yarder but it was called back right? This is an opportunity for Derrick Thompson and Arrius Holleman but to me they look FAR less ready to contribute than the glowing reports we've been hearing on the recruiting sites. Hopefully they are just getting the feel and will break out soon. We've gotten used to some pretty quick strike TDs from Robinson the last few years.

I hope one of them gets in gear or TCU will be a long night.

TCU is No. 115 in Pass Efficiency Defense-don't know what to think about them-they played very well against Air Force and held Monroe to about 55 yards TO in the second half. But otherwise struggling. TCU is one of the teams that employ the extra DB.

Can't catch the long pass? Riiiiiight. Perhaps you forgot the Hawaii Bowl? What was it, the third play of the game that went 70 yards or something?

He CAN catch it — it just isn't called or defenses aren't surrendering it. Given Beasley's talent, I would prefer he catch seven-yarders over the middle than 40-yarders downfield, too.

Yeah Nevada's Secondary was Ranked No. 120 on the Country and they literrally failed to cover the guy. He always has big numbers against pathetic defenses ranked in the 100s-against A&M its 7 yards per catch

He got open, and he made the catch. Based on his numbers, I'd say he has gotten open and made catches against a hell of a lot of defenses. With 28 catches this season, he has 197 in his career — third-best in SMU history. The man can get open and catches it when it's thrown to him ... and for what it's worth, his career average is 11.395939 yards per catch. Not bad at all.

5-57 (2 TDs) vs. Texas Tech
8-158 vs. Rice (OK, you get that one)
7-91 (1 TD) vs. Tulsa
9-72 (1 TD) vs. Navy
7-80 (1 TD) vs. Houston
9-135 vs. Tulane (two for you)
7-41 vs. UTEP
8-99 vs. Marshall
9-118 (1 TD) vs. ECU

Opponent doesn't matter. Beasley produces.

Shame that Wilkerson had to miss last season, he really could have been a threat. Still thought his number would have been a bit higher, but DJ had a good breakout and IMO is one of the best ball catchers around.
