Why? If they go to 12 these will be the teams they offer

I don't really understand why this is a laugher. It makes the most sense for the Big 12. Only problem would be with the Divisions.

South- UT, Baylor, Tech, OSU, and OU

North - KU, KSU, ISU, Mizzou, WVU, Louisville, and BYU

Not sure who they would move out of the north to balance the south. I suppose they could do a Leaders-Legends type divisions like the BIG 10 and split up OU and Texas.

It also solves the problem of potentially splitting UT/OU and OU/OSU into separate Divisions if they went for 2+ Texas schools

Sure would, but that appears to be an option they are refusing to look at.

Really don't understand what is so appealing about west virginia, especially for the big 12.

Big school, pretty good at football, from bcs conference and most importantly they aren't from Texas.

This would destroy the Big East. I see that we have two options:

TCU goes back to MWC. Maybe MWC extends invites to SMU and Houston to strengthen league?
Big East holds on for dear life and invites UCF, ECU, SMU, and Houston

Or

CUSA-MWC merger with TCU back in MWC.

'ModelT - I think you pretty-well summed it up. The only wild card is your comment awhile back about 'independence' - which may not be too far out of the question. Reason being is that college football has truly changed now & nothing what it was. It's a new day & with the right scheduling & polling agreements in place about the bowls, anything is possible. Welcome to college football without rivalries. LOL!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I think independence would be a last resort should we end up in a vastly depleted CUSA with Sun Belt additions.

It really comes down to what the remaining Big East schools decide to do. If they want to expand I think we have a shot at that. Or, CUSA might be able to poach a few of those schools and strengthen our league.

OU president quoted in a DMU story this morning that SMU is one of the schools being considered if the Big 12 decides to expand. They are looking at TCU, SMU, Houston, BYU and a couple of others. At least our name is in the conversation. Saddle up Orsini and lead the charge.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
