SMU Guiding Principles for moving forward

The combinations, scenarios and wishing thinking is discouraging to follow and/or rely on. SMU needs a plan that serves us short and long term. I hate being at the mercy of other schools and talking heads. We need a set of guiding principles that we set and which direct all our actions.

1). No move to a conference which requires more that 2 time zones for its members.
2). SW and Great Plains membership is the best for athletes, fans and parents
3). No move unless AQ is assured.
4). Announce expansion of Ford Stadium now.
5). Accelerate renovation of Moody
6). Schedule OOC games, especially home ones, with teams that ensure larger attendance at expanded Ford (academies and any BCS school)
7). Announce departure from CUSA immediately.
8). Go independent and earn membership in a AQ conference.

Big stakes, big decisions. SMU will be pursued now or later. Pony Up, Game On!

I'll address the bullet points

1) Why? If Big East raids CUSA for ECU/UCF then we have to look at the MWC.
2) What's best for the student-athlete has ZERO bearing on realignment. It sucks but its true.
3) Again I disagree. Even if its a move up the rung (MWC>>CUSA) we make the move. Just like TCU did. It kept crawling the non-BCS ladder until it finally broke down the door.
4) Agreed.
5) Agreed.
6) Agreed x1000. We need these games to counter-balance the poor attendance figures for conference play.
7) Independence will be a last resort to save the program. I, however, am for it should the nuclear bomb go off and we are left in a CUSA w/o Houston, ECU, UCF.
