how 'bout those Mustangs! I'm ready to get into the meat of the schedule.
meanwhile I can't help but notice the dropoff in scoring in the 3Q. only 6% of scoring is in the 3Q:
1 2 3 4 T
SMU 48 41 7 28 124
Opp 30 13 17 10 70
I'd love to see this stat catch up and to see some big 3rd quarters in the next games.

part of that is that we always seem to be kicking to the opponent to start the 2nd half

We do consistently get the ball to open the game. If we win the toss we take it, and if the other team wins they typically defer. So yes, we do almost always start the 2nd half on defense and with the lack of turnovers and traditionally coming out slow to start the 2nd half, this probably does account for a lot of it,

Think it's pretty normal to make some adjustments during the half. Seems to take us a little bit to catch on. Memphis defensive lineman Dontari Poe is a 350lbs+ monster and came out ready to play.

You guys are right. Our opponents always have those darn fifteen minute drives on us in the third quarter...

LOL...I honestly don't have a reasonable explanation for this matter other than this...

The second quarter doesn't look to good either - actually quite a bit worse. Did not notice this trend before. Let's hope we get better balance as the year goes on.
Of course, shutting out opponents very much helps the points against average.

I think you are misreading it Treadway. 2nd quarter is one of our best quarters with 41 vs. 13 points.

Thanks - reading comp problem. Agree that the 3rd quarter lack of scoring is a problem, but the d playing well sure helps on this stat. Been a long time since the d has held two offenses scoreless.
