I'd love to see Leach at SMU ... Am I crazy, or would that guarantee excitement and interest from the fans?

I think he would be interested. June Jones is making $2 million per year, more than double the next highest paid head coach in Conference USA.

I think that Leach would be great at SMU.

This was rumored last year. UNM couldn't afford to buyout their coach so they gave him another year.

Would be great for UNM, but not sure why Leach would settle for UNM, not sure how much they could pay him or the quality of facilities and budget. Once his lawsuit and the "closet" finally dies down, more schools will be looking at him. He was almost hired by Maryland last year, another year removed from the controversy the better for his chances of being hired. The end of the season should have a large turnover like every season does. He should have a good chance to find a higher caliber school than UNM in desperate need for a winning coach to save their program from the gutter and help generate revenue in a time when many schools are still facing tough financial losses.

Like others are saying, Leach can do better. Either way though, maybe UNM can improve their program to make a C-USA/MWC merger sweeter down the road if it ever comes to that.

No he can't-truth is that about 20-30 schools could had Mike Leach and not one has seriously considered it. He got a couple of courtesy interviews. If he wants to Coach he better take this one.

I could see Arizona dumping Stoops and hiring Leach. Also think UCLA would be great.

June Jones leaked his own name to suggest that he was being considered by Maryland last year to give him leverage pursuit of his/Orsini's academic agenda against Turner. I would take Leach over Jones in a heartbeat and so would most ADs at programs that matter.

This. Leach is still too toxic for most programs and completely unapologetic for the circumstances surrounding his departure from TT. You can respect him for not compromising who he is, but it is making him unemployable by most programs right now.

I can't stand Mike Leach, and I don't think I'm alone. So not sure how "excited" some fans would be if he came here. Beyond that, is June leaving? Are we hiring another coach? Nope. So the idea is pointless.

As far as NM goes, they should pull the trigger. They are terrible.
