erhaps the most intriguing of the four practice roster additions is McNeal, who played high school football with Priest in the Dallas area, went to the University of Miami, then transferred to South Methodist (in his hometown) because of family issues. He declared for the 2010 NFL draft following his junior year, citing hardship issues. He went undrafted, however, but later signed with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent.
The Lions have had a bead on McNeal for two years, and they were about to sign him as a training camp replacement for running back/returner Yonus Davis in May, before McNeal re-signed with the Chargers.
“He’s fast, elusive — an exciting player to watch play football,†said Lions defensive back Anthony Reddick, who played with McNeal at Miami. “To me, he’s an ideal CFL running back. We’re going to see what he has.â€
