B12 Talk on Norm

Discussed Mizzou to SEC - Mizzou meeting to discuss options on Tues, indicating they will most likely go SEC (why wouldn't they).

At that point, Louisville & Cinci to B12 North, TCU & SMU to B12 South.

Talked about it not being a great deal for anyone involved. First 3 grasping straws from depleted BE, SMU takes the deal just to make the big show.

Go right back to SWC days with one eye on your back with UT/OU able to bolt at any time.

I am curious about a couple things. What are thoughts on this overall? And more specifically, would the departure of 1-2 of the 3 BE teams mentioned make the other(s) go, or does this scenario rely on something happening to WVU? And lastly, why does Norm (quite definitely) have SMU in this scenario?

This is assuming BYU says no right? All indications are that the Big 12 has their crosshairs squarely on the Mormons right now.

I presume that is the assumption. I had to go back and listen to the online feed to make sure I caught the whole segment, as I was very caught off guard to hear the scenario laid out like that. Norm doesn't even mention BYU, but I was thinking he must have already ruled out BYU to get there.

Also found it interesting he didn't bring up Houston at least as an and/or with us, given the legislative ties.

Doesn't UT hate UH more than they hate us? Have to ask some older, more knowledgeable poster than I.

Also, I don't think BYU wants in the B12.

Maybe his assumption was that BYU isn't all that interested to begin with, and with Mizzou out the door its case closed.

I don't think byu is interested. They just extended their deal with Boise yesterday. Something tell me they wouldn't be adding teams to their schedule at this poin if they were planning on joining a conference. If they were thinking about joining the big 12 wouldn't it be smart to wait a couple months to see what is going on.

Yep. I'm guessing that's what he is either assuming or hears through his contacts. Missouri is dying to get out of the B12. They will jump at just about any invite to a different BCS conference it seems. BYU, in my opinion, doesn't view BYU football like we do. We see it as a possible BCS crasher or money maker with it's large Mormon following. I think they view it as outreach. I've heard interviews with former players talking about the basketball player that was suspended for off the court issues (believe he was sleeping with his girlfriend or something) and they discussed the big scandal that hit BYU football (I believe in 2004). They said there were serious talks of getting rid of BYU football just because they thought it was a bad image for the Mormons to have out there. So, like I said, for BYU their TV deal is a bigger calling than simply making money and playing for national championships.

Very interesting. Is Norm pandering to his DFW listeners? Or is UT/TT dropping a blackball on UH. TT/OSU may be allies here for SMU. We gave them games in the DFW area when they needed them to compete with UT/OU. KU may also be an ally wanting another school with some academic credibility. TCU whooped ISU in a bowl game. And one way to water down TCU is to put them back in the same conference with SMU. You never know what might happen.

Texas Tech, OSU and Baylor feast off DFW recruiting. Can't see it

I'm glad we got mentioned somewhere again, but my expectation is things go on like normal around SMU. CUSA we are here to stay!

I think my left nut is more "in the know" about conference realignment than Norm. I think he's just throwing sh*t out there.

Pretty intuitive left nut you have there.

If Norm was pandering by talking SMU, its the first time in Ticket history.

SMU in the B12 conversation upset more P1's than it attracted.

So your left nut and taint talk about realignment?

The left one is more creative than my right. Don't know how to explain that.
