Sorry if this has been discussed already but what do you guys think of June's decision to punt at the end of regulation? If we run a 4-5 second play and don't convert, TCU gets the ball around their own 40 with just a few seconds left in the game. I thought it was an opportunity to be aggressive and go for the win. Any play gaining 10 yards or more would've set up a realistic field goal attempt.
Also, overtime generally favors the home team, and TCU had a lot of momentum going for them. I'm obviously happy now that we punted, but I thought we should've played for the win in regulation
Thoughts?

For all his bluster, JJ is pretty conservative really. I have no complaints, but my buddy was saying the exact same thing at the time. Hard to say, but if something had gone wrong, the board would have blown up.

I have no problem with the punt.

Punting was the right call, our offense was sputtering the last few drives and it's unlikely we'd have converted a 4th down throw.

I really thought Patterson might go for two rather than the tie. They were shredding us pretty good at that point, but I guess as home team too risky. I think they would have made it.

Its a close call but I'd say the Punt is the slightly better call. He ran the clock down the :13 seconds. I thought he might try to hit one pass to get us in scoring position. Ball was on about the TCU 44

I thought our defense was 'gassed' at that point and needed every minute to catch their breath. I thought our offense needed some time to collect themselves. They looked a little rattled at that point.

I thought he was going to go for it.

I thought he was going to go for it as well. However, look at the replay if you get a chance. It might just be me but as the camera was focusing on JJ on the sideline just as the players came over, you could hear the announcer in the background saying that it was SMU's third and final time out. It looked to me that JJ made a face as if he didn't realize that. Might be my imagination but the change in expression is obvious.

i know the 'right' decision is to go on d if you win the toss in ot but putting our d right back out there may have been better for tcu

Has to have been the right decision because we won. Had we lost it would have been the wrong decision.

Its always the best decision to play defense first.

I was referring to the decision to punt. Yes, you always play defense first in OT.
