SMU coach June Jones responded Wednesday morning to TCU coach Gary Patterson ripping Jones and the program the day before. Patterson was apparently miffed by Jones remarking on TCU's consistency in not changing its approach. SMU beat TCU, 40-33, in overtime last week in Fort Worth.

"I'm kind of disappointed," Jones said. "I thought I gave them a compliment. Obviously it got misconstrued to him, but that stuff happens.

"I know a loss sometimes makes you say things you wish you hadn't said...I wanted to tell him we try to copy what he does. They don't change. They do what they do, and that's what good teams do."

Jones said he would probably reach out to Patterson "after he settles down a little bit." Then Jones laughed.

Jones said TCU has in fact been helpful in being willing to share its approach to academics and facilities. Patterson said Tuesday he would offer SMU no help in any way going forward.

Patterson was also upset about SMU receiver Darius Johnson saying "I really don't like these TCU people" after SMU's win.

Jones wasn't worried about his star receiver's comments.

"I think if you asked any of their players, they would probably say the same thing," Jones said. "It comes with the territory."

As for further fallout of this public flap?

"I know he [Patterson] said he wasn't going to help us anymore, but he probably guaranteed a sellout next year," Jones said of the rematch of the rivalry.

SMU is relishing in its first win over its rival since 2005. Students can pose for pictures with the coveted Iron Skillet tomorrow on campus. SMU is also selling season tickets for its remaining four home games at the price of $40.33, a tribute to SMU's 40-33 win over the Horned Frogs.

With dignity and class. So glad we found the right coach for SMU.

these kind of responses typically cause more rage in a person who is a hothead. it infuriates them that they can't draw someone offsides. i love it.

basically JJ's way of saying "Meh".

Maybe we could strike a deal. GP continues to help SMU and JJ teaches GP how to talk to the media! For a guy that has such a conservative on-the-field coaching philosophy, it baffles me that he could go off the handle like this.

You could have had a good schtick going if you had continued posting as the fake GP
