Pete Fiutak on Big 12's Next Moves

Postby PonyKai » Thu Oct 06, 2011 4:47 pm

"So now, does the Big 12 go full bore Texas? Does it table the idea of being more geographically diverse and base its business-model on owning Texas?

The next natural move will then be to bring in SMU and Houston to make Texas even happier. The Big 12 certainly doesn’t need to improve the Dallas TV viewership by bringing in the Mustangs, but taking on Houston, after losing Texas A&M to the SEC, grabs a little bit of the pie back from the southeastern part of the state"

The rest of the known world so far thinks and says otherwise...

There is no way they add more Texas teams. Either they sit at 10 or the Big East is raided.

From what I read earlier, no more Texas teams now.

On another note, got to give the lil12 credit - they really kept this secret compared to all the other rumors abound.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The folks up in Cinci believe that they will either stay put at 10 or will go after BYU and BSU really hard. There is a fear that there is little interest in either Cinci or Louisville.

Can't see either of those teams in the Big East under any circumstances.

They are really hoping, but are afraid that they will end up in a reborn CUSA.

What SMU needs to do is continue recruiting better and better athletes and winning games. The better the recruits the more games they can win...the more games they win the better the recruits will be. Then, beat the big schools when scheduled, i.e., Texas Tech, A&M, TCU, Baylor, etc. The stronger we get the more of these local games SMU should try to schedule. That will help us on local recruiting. Whether we go to another conference or not, if we can't be beat we will draw fans, TV time, etc. WIN, WIN, WIN (wherever we are).
