Air Force Headed to Big East

Postby Stallion » Sun Oct 09, 2011 11:29 am

very important realignment key because it makes the MWC far less desireable for SMU and probably hurts SMU's chances for Big East

wow, that is sort of surprising. might either make the Big East more attractive for us, or its gonna cause us to get left out. I think we get in.

I don't necessarily see it hurting SMU's chances at the BE. They still need more Football playing schools and would think that getting a market in Texas would be appealing now that TCU is gone. UH or SMU and/or both would still be a good fit. The MWC is not looking good that's for certain.

Funny how both UH and SMU over the last 15 months have tried to unilaterally push in to an AQ conference and would throw each other under the bus in a second. Now, here we sit, and SMU & UH would probably be most attractive as a package deal to some conference for reasons beaten to death on here before.

If true we are stuck in CUSA as the MWC is now no better than CUSA. And we are 95% out of the running for the Big East. Nightmare scenario just inched closer to coming full circle. Here is what will happen next:

UCF, Houston, Navy, and Army, and/or ECU go Big East

CUSA invites La Tech and UNT.

Not good news as long as the FB schools do not break off from BB schools because there will be only 9-10 spots availiable and Army and Navy could be shoe-ins if they want. Lessens our chances although still possible.

I agree that MWC and BE make less sense geographically. The service academies are the only non-regional teams to help with attendance at an expanded Ford, but we need big state schools, whose fans will travel to Dallas to consistentlly help us average 40+k. SMU needs a Big 12 or SEC type conference to do that.

Also, the AFA AD's comment: "There are terrible, terrible hard feelings in college athletics," Mueh said. "I'm so disappointed with my fellow athletic directors. I think we have put the student-athlete in second place while chasing the dollar.", makes it appear that he is just as guilty. Everyone bemoans the pursuit of money and then behave exactly as they criticize others.

If CUSA loses schoools, why would we add La Tech and NTSU? I think adding Boise Sate, CSU, UNM would be more likely?

I am not sure why CUSA wouldn't end up as strong as they are now being able to pick through what is left of MWC?

Just thinking out loud here......

If CUSA has to include that junior teachers college in Denton then I have probably seen my last SMU game. I have no interest in being included with them in anything we do.
This entire situation is looking more and more like we are the ugly stepchild that is going to be left behind. With the possible disintegration of both CUSA and MWC quality wise I wonder how long our 'money guys' will continue to shell out big bucks to fund our sports programs.

GO PONIES!!!

we could go football only Big East also and send all sports to the Missouri Valley. if Houston and UCF leave CUSA, we'd have to consider it. Tulsa has a history with the Valley too, they may go also. BigEast could be a different league for football with just a few overlapping basketball members like Uconn and Rutgers.

Air Force would join only in football. The Big East still must have a total of eight members that participate in all sports. This addition does little to affect SMU.

Que the people who need to stay away from this place because anytime anything happens it's apparently the end of SMU football as we know it...
