Gotta feel for the Dallas Stars.
5 PM drop of the puck tonight (when have they ever had a game start that early) coupled with going against the Rangers in ALCS...
Announced attendance 6306
Goes to show what a competitive market SMU is dealing with in vying for sportsfans' attendance.

It's Columbus day, apparently the NHL thinks that people actually had the day off work because there were a lot of early starts around the league.

It's a fun sport to watch and believe it or not Corpus Christi did a fine job supporting a minor league team in the WPHL. Then the WPHL merged with the CHL and adopted a bunch of horrible rules about how many veterans you can have, etc. and really killed the speed of the game. NHL is of course the fastest brand of hockey and that's why it's so fun to watch.

Been to several Star games and playoff hockey games. Great in person, terrible on TV. Started really getting into it until the strike season. After that I haven't cared.

for a school boasting approx 36,000 students (and who knows how many alumni?) that is truly woeful attendance. I suppose by comparison that's even worse than our paltry 6,000 crowds we've drawn in past years

I refuse to talk other's attendance until we are selling out. It does not make me feel better that others are just as bad or worse, and it makes me feel worse that others are better.

Being there live for playoff overtime hockey might be the best sport experience there is. It is an emotional roller coaster unlike any other.
Except for SMU games a few years back where we would find increasingly creative ways to lose as the seasons wore on. We have all seen plays that have lost games that probably will never happen again.
Anyway, just goes to show the power of pro sports/a winning team. Rangers a few years back meant nothing to most people, now they suck in the entire city. Notable season by SMU and some winning ought to help us start to bring in a good amount of people who don't give a damn.
Bandwagon fans are the answer, just take a look at TCU.

I grewp in minnesota, Hockey is the best live spectator sport by far. If every person in the country got to attend 1 OT playoff hockey game (where the home team wins) Hockey would be the most popular sport in the US, experience it once and you are hooked for life.

There was maybe 2,000 people at the game in actual attendance and I was one of them. I won't talk about hockey cause I'm major league biased and have been going to games since '95...but without an owner, a losing product the previous 3 (probably going to be 4) seasons, plus a 5 PM start time...throw in a Rangers ALCS game...and it's not like this wasn't expected.
By far the worst crowd that I have ever personally since at a Stars game. Not the worst, however, I've seen at an SMU game sadly.
