Any Dallas Media Love?

Postby ponyte » Tue Oct 11, 2011 7:20 am

Was wondering if SMU is geting any attention this week from local media. It is a huge game (one of the biggest for SMU in decades) for SMU and the conference.

Are we getting any attention other than the usual page 3 below the fold?

According to another thread Jones was on with Hansen in a lovefest Sunday night.

June has had a few local appearances/spots on Dale Hansen, Norm Hitzges.

The Ticket has certainly talked more about the Mustangs and not just Rich Philips winning Homer Call of the Week (which he did). Corby Davidson on Hardline, TCU alum, dogged us, but issued a half [deleted] apology for being flat out wrong on attendance at the TCU game. The morning show on the Ticket, which is the highest rated show for men 18-55 (our target) in DFW, has spoken very highly of the Mustangs. Certainly more than at any point before or since the Hawaii bowl.

Galloway has also praised SMU and trashed Gary Patterson which was a nice bonus.

Overall, definitely more attention than at any time in the last 5 years. 99% of it is positive too.

But once again, no talk of the upcoming game, nor mention of the ticket deal, nor plea for people to come out and support the program.

I'm a cynic, so I usually scoff at coaches pimping ticket sales during these things, but everyone does it. WFAA gets content and we get a free ad, yet we never use the platform. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but I'd like to see the effort.

Thanks. Great to hear. Wish the dead tree media would step it up but the broadcast media probably reaches more folks.

Ummm...did everyone already forget all the ink we generated last week, especially with the Patterson meltdown?

The Ticket did discuss the 40.33 ticket promotion. I heard it on every show on the Station.

And no discussion of upcoming game? Are you kidding? When has any media outlet done game coverage more than 4 days before a game other than a national championship type game?

They break down last weekends games through wednesday and start discussing upcoming games on Thursday at the earliest. Not that they will, but nothing to [deleted] about lack of on freaking Tuesday.

The unusual situation of a possible ALCS win for the Rangers has taken over all the media's attention. TCU to the SWC.2 fills in the space between showing Nellie Cruz' GW GS again.
I haven't heard a single student discuss UCF (for that matter I had to chide everyone last week for not wearing school colors on Spirit Friday) The culture at the school (i.e. Meadows) is that our students came here for specific academic reasons, not to have fun at football games. I just don't know why you can't do both.

Meadows is famous for not caring about sports. At least in my head that's true.

I mentioned this on a thread about Thad's awesome video. Is there any way (after it premieres on the Stampede tonight, of course) we can use the new ad and get in on a couple local stations? I saw an ad last night on the news for UT Arlington (just promoting the school, totally random and nothing really special), so I don't see why we couldn't get a spot or two with the ticket info popped in at the end. Would get you better outreach than even the billboard and allows us to take full advantage of the Thadsta's incredible effort. Just a random thought for the group to consider.

Just heard a commercial for the game on the ticket. Damn marketing.

whitwiki, I attended Meadows. While most kids there don't have a lot of sports interest, it is not everyone. Plus, most of the Meadows majors take a lot of time out of the classroom. As Thad knows, editing a project can take more time than one can sometimes imagine. But no doubt, myself and others in Meadows, all made time for football as best possible. To me, the bigger problem was that a lot of kids came to SMU, but had other favorite schools too. Sad.

I was watching some local FSN college football show. It had that annoying [deleted] that covers the Stars game some times (he acts like a damn early 90s tv personality, very aggravating). Anyway, as the show was ending they had a thing on the Big East. They talked about UCF and Temple I believe. But at the end, that annoying [deleted] host brought up SMU being a solid candidate for the Big East. His final lines of the show were that everyone wants a part of SMU in conference realignment. I think my opinion of that guy changed, ever so slightly though.
