"Do you have an FBS football program? Have you ever dreamed of playing in East Hartford in November? The Big East will probably take you."

"Numerous sources across the sport Monday said they can't imagine the marketplace will smile on a league that will essentially be Conference USA circa 2004."

I have always thought the Big East was fortunate to be an AQ conference. It was probably more to do with TV ratings connected to the Northeast than the caliber of football. And as such, the screwy football basketball arrangement certainly created inherently instability in the conference.

All that said, one year in an AQ conference beats the Hades out of what we have dealt with the last few years.

no kidding. if nothing else, it's a short term money grab. if it's no different than CUSA, at least we'll get a few extra million for the next 2-3 years.

but BCS inclusion is only part of the equation. We still would receive benefit of

1) Better Bowls
2) Better Football TV Contract-Money and Visibility
3) Much Better BB TV Contract-Money and Visibility
4) Shot in the arm for BB program to play in nationally elite BB conference
5) Better positioned for next realignment
6) Two years of BCS inclusion
7) we don't have to play in League with watered down members

ITS STILL A NO-BRAINER. Even if Big East lost BCS then this would still be equal to or better than TCU's jump to MWC

No doubt it's a no-brainer. If by some miracle we win the league for those two years, we look a lot better as a two-time, or even one-time BCS participant when all is said and done and the final shuffle happens.

I hope Mandel is wrong about BE, but I'm afraid he is right.

8)Scheduling agreement with Notre Dame, which (if it remains intact) would see us play Notre Dame within 4 years.

and I just can't see, with all the TV sets in the Northeast, that the Big East will loose their BCS status in the future. It is just not going to happen.

The article's premise is that Boise should not rush to BE just for AQ status, this conference may lose it's AQ.

I submit that that we should move to quality, not a short term opportunity which could evaporate. Either stay put with CUSA/MWC combo or go Indy until a SEC or Big 12 need us and increased access to Dallas, which may be more valuable to SEC.

Asked another way, what next step will put more fans in the seats of Ford Stadium. Either ND calls SO and strongly encourages SMU move to BE (wink, wink) or we commit to SEC that we will expand Ford to 50+ immediately, plus renovate Moody, and host SEC fans in Dallas.

Damn it. Didn't see this posted here.

Well another double post happens...

Interesting read. And if we happen to end up in the BE by chance we better hope he's right.
