Report: Boise State, Temple invites 'imminent'

The Big East is set to extend invitations to Boise State and Temple, the New York Post is reporting.

SMU takeaway:

Boise State would like to have a football partner in the West, the Post reports, opening the door possibly for Houston or SMU.

Missouriâ€™s decision is a factor for the Big East, as well. If Missouri leaves the Big 12 for the SEC, the Big 12 would likely extend an invitation to current Big East member Louisville, the source said.

The Big East would then have to invite SMU and Houston. The Big East would have East and West divisions in football.

reportedly are about to get BE invites. OK then.

Most reports (including what Norm said) was that the SMU/UH packaging deal was good to go.

I don't know how credible this is but just somthing to read from a UH poster.

"Given, the last thing I want to ever say to you guys is that Houston to the BE is a done deal, but this is by far the most serious my source has heard. There has been three meetings and the SMU/Houston combo has gained so much traction that it is talked about more like "a given". I talked to one other guy on the USF board that has a source and he had the same names, and also said that the SMU/Houston combo was going to happen.

I know many of you want into the B12, but being totally honest, Houston doesnt have an $80-$100 million athletic budget to compete. The BE is a great move that will give you BCS AQ and still be competitive. BTW, you can thank Dr Khators relationship with Dr Genshaft at USF. Dr G was able to get Jurich form Lville and Luck from WVU to all vocally push for Houston. The BBall schools just wanted SMU because of their academic ranking. ( i really hate the BBall snobs)

Sounds quite plausible. The private Catholics w/ good academics like us, and SMU/UH is a good package deal. Both markets, travel partner BS, get the good private school with flaws, get the big ol' land grant school w/ flaws. Package deal.

Funny the way he phrased it, the bball schools JUST wanted SMU for their academics, otherwise it would be UH riding high and mighty to rep the state of Texas. Somehow, I think we have at least a couple more positive qualities.

I don't think it was reported anywhere that the first invites would go to Boise and Temple. Yes it has looked like they would be invited but it certainly looked like UCF was getting the first invite.

It's going to come down to either Houston or SMU.. should be interesting. Maybe the winner of the Houston/SMU showdown gets the invite :shock:

Maybe the Presidents caved on inviting Boise if the ADs will take us over Houston.
