SMU Hall of Fame banquet

Just got back to the hotel after a fantastic night celebrating SMU athletic history at the Hall of Fame banquet.

The inductees (Karlin Kennedy, George McMillion, Ira Terrell, Louie Kelcher and the son of Doc Hayes) all spoke beautifully.

Line of the night, for me, was when Big Louie Kelcher talked about his NFL career and his Super Bowl ring ... and then said making it in to the SMU Hall of Fame was the biggest honor he had ever earned. That was awesome.

Big shout-out to the swimmers who turned out in large number (and loudly) to honor Coach Mac.

Congratulations to all.

HOF banquet was outstanding. Largest attendance in the 5 year history of the event. Overwhelming support for all the inductees; however, with the very large contingent of vocal swimmers the crowd favorite was Coach Mac. Coach Mac, who is recovering from serious health issues, had been forced to use a walker since discharge from a very long hospital stint and as recently as 3 weeks ago. His pride motivated him to work out vigourously as he did not want anyone to see him or remember him using a walker. He walked into the hotel, received his award, made his presentation and walked out of the hotel after the banquet although shakey at times. The pride and heart of a true competitor even at the age of 80.

Very much like turnout for Red Barr supporters last year. Great presence by the swimmers.

I'm with Hal, in that I loved the Kelcher comment.
