This is how you do it

Postby MV pony » Wed Jun 19, 2013 10:22 am

L'ville, with one of the top 10 softest non-conference schedules (4 cupcakes), is projected to go to the Sugar or Orange Bowl this year as the winner of the AAC. You know the song, "This Is How You Do It. " With L'ville's schedule and a little luck, SMU could be playing in the big bowl this year. Maybe it's time to buy out of the TAM, Baylor and TT games and let the coaches pick the OCC teams. What do you think?

Those games are the only games on the schedule that anyone wants to see. Unless we can beat them, we don't belong in a big bowl.

Yes, let's skip big bowls if offered if we don't feel our schedule is hard enough.

OOC schedule doesn't matter for BCS bowl purposes this year. L'Ville could lose all four of their cupcake OOC games, take care of business in the AAC, and still go to the Orange or Fiesta. Likewise, we could beat Tech, A&M, and TCU, go 7-1 in the AAC and still be in the Independence Bowl or something.

I thought we already tried buying out of the A&M game already and couldn't swing it so thats why we bought out of the Baylor game. I want Tech, I feel like if any time is our chance to beat them then the time is now.

What a losers mentality. If we ever want to be taken seriously again or ever get out of the AAC, we have to show we can beat good teams. I want to see us play better teams and see how we do. Your head appears to be stuck in mid-major land.

Louisvilles cupcake OOC schedule is exactly what will keep them out of the national title race even if they don't lose a game. A two loss SEC team would probably get in over them.

I would rather play big games and lose them than play a bunch of cupcakes. For example, we may very well lose to LSU this season but it will be infinitely more fun than any other game on our schedule - including the majority of bowl games.

Agreed. I just hope we're not considered a "cupcake" in 2017 and ya'll keep scheduling us

As I have said here before...I really think that the SMU-TCU game is in jeopardy. I anticipate that the game will not continue beyond the current agreement.

i believe in upgrading schedules. when you are winning 8-9 games consistently you should begin the upgrades. something we still haven't done.

winning 8 of 12 games is only .666. don't have to be world beaters, just have to beat rice and tulane.

Keep the games and start beating those teams and they'll be the ones buying out in favor of cupcakes (which we happen to be at present which is why they play us at all).

What's the reason? Does TCU just think they're doing SMU a favor by scheduling us at this point? Sadly, I can't really disagree with this. How do TCU fans feel about this? Do they want to keep scheduling SMU or would they rather see us replaced by someone else on the OOC schedule?

From what I understand, Patterson would rather not play SMU, but he is not pushing to end it...yet. I think there are some on TCU's Board of Trustees that will resist any effort to end the series, but I'm not sure if they would have a majority if it came to a vote. Nothing is forever.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I think the biggest problem is most TCU fans don't feel like the SMU game carries any more weight than other OOC games (Virginia, etc). No one gets particularly fired up about it. This is probably even more the case with us having local rivalries on the conference schedule.
