Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUhttp://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc ... w/2439375/
Has SMU as a possible 'next stop' for Petrino under 'arbitrary list.' I'm sorry; I don't care how great of a coach he is - he's got too much baggage for me.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUAs long as they don't have a show cause penalty attached to them, I honestly don't care who we hire. I love SMU and can't wait for basketball season, but for those who are not paying attention, the train has left the station for football and we are not on it. JJ has had more than enough time to turn this ship regardless of how helpful the school has been. While I wish all college football coaches were great people, the reality is they are usually jerks who are great at winning on the field. Just get me someone who cares enough about how we perform on the field that they will at least give some effort and I will be happy. I'm not going to say I will respect them for their moral code, but them again we pay these folks to win on the field, not teach ethics.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUI have advocated Petrino to SMU for awhile. Say what you want about him- he's a GREAT coach and a proven winner. Not sure if RGT would go for it, though.

Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUSo we are gonna hire another guy that wrecked his Harley and had invovlement with some hot babe. Cool!
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
![]() ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUIf we were to ever hire Petrino, I would NEVER support SMU football again.
The guy is a slimy piece of [deleted], who QUIT QUIT QUIT on the Falcons, and let the players know with a note. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."

That's the spirit! Give us the old guy who "pencils in" losses......... Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUEast Coast Mustang--
Regarding your comment that you're not sure if RGT would go for it, just today Mark Blaudschum, addressing Turner's leadership of the AAC, stated that Turner "should not be allowed to play with the toys since [he] doesn't know how they work or really care." See "New Big East has too many lemmings" @ ajerseyguy.com. As he further states, it's a tough battle between arrogance and ignorance.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
I'm pretty sure you've made your point. Time to move on. You're not making any progress here.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
Hahaha, ok. Yeah, he's 75-26 in college and has won big at each school he's coached at, TOM COUGHLIN called him the best playcaller he's even seen, but don't support him or SMU football if we got him because he sucked when he coached your NFL team? ![]() 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
He doesn't have any probation/sanctions baggage or "Being a terrible college football coach" baggage which is really all that matters. With his pedigree he could do wonders in terms of making us a serious football operation. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUI bet Petrino could beat the powerhouse Tulane. I don't even think he has a pencil.

Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
Yes, I am bitter, I don't hide that at all, but the dude has a track record of leaving jobs. I would not touch him with a ten foot pole. I admit the guy can call plays, but I'd be willing to be my entire life savings that if he came to SMU he would not stay longer than a year. He will leave WKU this year if he has any success. He's always looking for the next job. Trends of Leaving: 2003: First Year at Louisville - met with Auburn boosters 2004: Interviewed with ND, UF and Ole Miss, then said ""I want to make it clear that I'm not interested in any other coaching jobs, and am happy at the University of Louisville." Then in December he interviewed at LSU 2005: Interviewed with da Raiders 2006: Signed a 10-year contract worth up to $25 million and 5 months later he went to the Falcons. 5 months after taking over the Falcons he took the job at Arkansas. This article from Pat Forde sums it up: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/ ... ortCat=ncf So hiring a guy with a 41-9 college record will get the blood pumping. But those Arkansas fans ready to embrace their new hotshot coach and his pretty ball plays need to understand one thing: The disingenuous drifter doesn't love you or any other fan base. He doesn't love any school or any NFL franchise. He loves himself, his playbook and his bank account. That's it. Don't expect it to change. Bobby Petrino will return your embrace, Hog fans. But while he's hugging you he'll be looking over your shoulder, scanning the terrain for his next hook-up. Even in a profession rife with dishonest posturing, Petrino is singularly mercenary. Loyalty, allegiance, commitment and honesty are foreign concepts to him. It must be a sad existence. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
don't know how my comment could be viewed as a defeatist attitude...? In no way did I advocate for June Jones. I would just rather have a coach that I know will be at SMU for at least 3-5 years. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUHire him, just don't be upset when he leaves or the way he leaves!
