How many of us can guess what SMU's overall bowl record is without looking it up? I was shocked that we are at .500 along with one tie. And 3 of those wins came from Coach June Jones in the last 4 years.

Not a bad post season record in bowls. Of course we are 0-1 in conference championship games. Its not a bowl but certainly a factor in the post season record.

I think Ron Meyer would have done better than JJ if there were as many bowls then with at least .500 record...and we wouldn't have been on probation so often.

Well, there is that blatant cheating thing Meyers had going for him

Meyer was 0-1 in the only winning year he had where probation wasn't an issue. Meyer had 4 years of losing before he finally had a winning season. And he had more recruiting 'tools' than JJ has now. Meyer was a heck of a coach and was playing in what was then the toughest conference in the US. Still, he wasn't destined to be a great college coach (his ambition was always to make it to the NFL).

For better of worse, JJ is 3-2 post season and 3-1 in bowls. I would bet he has the best post season record of any SMU coach. And I understand the conference is different and the number of bowls is different. Just because the money and TV demands have changed doesn't denigrate his accomplishments. He is succeeding in the environment of now, not 35 years ago.

And Meyer has a top 20 team post bowl loss and JJ has not had a top 25 team @ SMU. I'm not saying they are comparable, Just their record giving an entirely different college football world are very difficult to compare.

I love Ron Meyer. I would got to Hell with him. And I love JJ's taking us to post season games. It beats the Hades out of sitting at home.

Whatever beef we have with Tiki Head, he's largely taken care of business in the post season. Nevada and Fresno State won't forget their tail-whuppins for awhile yet.

And Pittsburgh...of course, I too wish JJ cared about recruiting and making this a full time job

Losing that Army bowl game left a worse taste in my mouth than the Tulane loss for some reason, maybe its because I was there in person. However, 3 out 4 bowl wins isn't bad. I do wish we could figure out how to beat the service academies, especially since Navy will be a conference foe in 2015.
