I liked this part

"At this time, we do not have plans to add any west coast teams to the football schedule. Baylor, TCU and North Texas are mainstays for the foreseeable future."

"We are just shy of 8,000 season tickets and are moving about 150 tickets per week."

God that's pathetic.

But what were we down to on season tickets the last few years? I seem to remember a very low number. To be honest, I am surprised it is that high.

Winning against solid BCS-bs teams cures cancer & attendance problems.

Nice that he answered the question directly.

Putrid season ticket sales. We can't get to 10,000 season ticket holders?!

I thought we were just a smidgeon under 10,000 last year. Those Aggies and Frogs must not have renewed. But it is ALMOST 1/4 (.25%) of TCU's season ticket count

That's quite a bit less than 10% of all walking, breathing alumni buying a season ticket. Probably much less since most season ticket holders buy multiple season tickets. My dad and I have 6.

if you are going to be honest-of those "less than 8,000 season ticket" holders I would guess less than 3,500 are actual SMU alumni ticket holders because most season ticket holders buy multiple tickets for the Wife and/or family who likely aren't SMU grads. Then there are faculty, staff, parents, family, friends of SMU who contributed as well

That's one problem with having a lot of out-of-state students. It creates a lot of out-of-state alums who don't buy season tickets.

Per SMU:

SMU has approximately 110,000 alumni worldwide. About 60,000 live in Texas, with nearly 40,000 alumni living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Well that's pretty damning.... the only thing I can say is there is, more or less, a lost generation of SMU football fans from the post DP, pre June era who never cared when they went here and for that same reason, probably never will. This will take time, to build up again is my best guess. Even that past few years, I've seen more and more of my friends who have been out of school a couple years come to the blvd and some will even go to the games!

Its hard to distinguish yourself when you are literally surrounded by much more successful programs such as:

Texas
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas A&M
TCU
Texas Tech
Baylor
LSU
Arkansas

Combine that with the fact that we get our doors blown off everytime we play a semi-decent opponent and people just don't care.

More reason to keep fightin'. It's been an uphill battle our entire football existence, so our predicament is nothing new - we've had moments of great success, but it has always been short-lived.
