Always a great idea to stick 1930s language in your ads.

The season kickoffs with a huge game against Texas Tech under the lights at Ford Stadium at 7 pm on Friday, August 30th. Wear your best white Mustang gear for the annual "Whiteout" and for your chance to be on ESPN, showing the country why SMU fans are No. 1.

Ugh, here we go again. This will ONLY backfire. 2/3 of our own fans will be wearing something other than white, 100% of the tech fans will be in red and black, so we will end up with a pathetic looking "annual whiteout."

These things need to be organic, when it's clear that everyone is on board; you can't just throw it in paragraph 7 of the opening gameday mailer. Make it a STUDENT SECTION WHITEOUT (they actually do it pretty well) or do it for a later game when there's not going to be 10,000 of the opponent's fans in the house.

I agree about the white out. I was on SMUMUSTANGS.com earlier, and saw no mention of this. Everyone needs to be able to see it, easily, to know what to wear. Soiree??? Really, I feel I need to bring my parasol with me!!!

One of these days we will decide to have an annual "out" with one of our school colors. I am wearing red.

Soiree?

Jesus, SMU.

Hey I know everyone in the community views us as a bunch of elitists that the average potential fan in Dallas can't identify with whatsoever. Let's capitalize on that snobbery with some pretentious advertising campaign referring to a COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME as a soiree.

Yes, I realize it is a joke. It is just a really stupid joke for a school like SMU to throw out there, when we already have a problem with our image in the community that we are trying to attract.

Why are we so pathetic?

The (color) outs do. not. work. I have never seen one work in my entire time going to SMU games. Why do we keep beating this dead pony? Let it go.

I'm curious to know if the person who plans these athletic promotions ever goes to the games. I'm guessing not.

EDIT: I thought about it and the Armed Forces Bowl "black out" appeared to work. Because we wore the opponent's colors. A spectacular display of SMU incompetence but gotta give credit where credit is due.

Don't the sororities always wear white to the first game? Is wearing white just trying to align with them?

I think I might make a " Sh*t ponyfans say " twitter that only serves the purpose of tweeting things to Rick hart. Mostly for good points like this about the pretentious branding
