Another one (Tech starting QB this time) bites the dust

Looks like we might have a freshmen that has no game experience starting against us in Davis Webb. Brewer went down with a back injury while he was competing with Webb for the starting QB spot. The odds keep getting better for SMU.

Kind of good but I've heard Tecj fans were already enameled with Webb and unfortunately he's been through spring ball. Was he a december graduate or a RS?

Start the music, when they're down to 11 walkons, needing crutches to get on the field.

Given Kingsbury's history with Freshman QBs, I wouldn't necessarily think this is a great thing for us.

Hahaha ... well said. For what it's worth, I talked with a reporter who has covered Tech in recent years. He it was only "about 60-40" that Brewer held off Webb for the starting job, anyway — he said he would have started Brewer, but that Webb "was amazing" and that it wouldn't be long before he was given the keys to the car.
He also said something about how Kingsbury and his staff are new, obviously, but that Tech's roster is really big and strong, and said "if they can figure out the system in time, they're going to have a great year." He clearly is a Kingsbury fan, based on the way he recalled KK's playing days.

Well sounds like we have might be playing against QB with no game experience going up against an experienced Mason defense. And a team that needs to figure out the system before the first game against SMU. Odds keep getting better.

Greyshirt.
Looks like he graduated HS in December 2012 so not a greyshirt: "But Webb, who graduated from Prosper High School in December, split series evenly with Brewer throughout the scrimmage."

Experienced defense? Huh? About 6 of the likely starters haven't started for SMU. A 7th one has about 2 games of starting experience,

While this can only help us, people have a funny way of "finding themselves" around us. See: Tulane.
The air-raid offense, with its emphasis on 'make a decision' now throws, actually favors young quarterbacks. Instead of complexity, it's hand off or keep, throw 1 or throw 2, and do it NOW. In some ways the polar opposite of the RnS.
The kid will not have to go up against an experienced defense, but he will have to deal with an experienced secondary. If we can get any kind of pressure on the kid, especially with his best target out the first half, we may be able to hurt 'em.
But I say, now more than ever, the game hinges on Garrett Gilbert.

Mason may try to test the freshman QB by throwing that 3-4 fire zone blitz at him a couple of times early on in the game.
