UNIVERSITY PARK _ SMU coach June Jones has much depth at receiver, including “three to four’’ freshman who could play this season.

I predict that there is a reason the wide receivers have been cut off from interviews.

It was a pay board. What do you think the reason is?

My guess? Wide receivers everywhere, tend to be a pretty animated group. We are putting in a number of new reads and plays (Hal Mumme), and the coaches want to minimize any conversation about our new packages.

My second guess, the starting four really have not been determined and June is looking for a combination that will be much better than last year's production. He doesn't want anyone to assume that they will start.

I think Jeremiah Gaines will play in Game 1 because he's the only Receiver that has the size to put in some of that new package. June just wants Tech to believe that the freshman won't play -that's why they aren't allowed to talk to the media and SMU media is not allowed to talk about which position the receivers are playing at -but we shall see-I'm pretty curious to find out. In my opinion I'd play at minimum 6 receivers in an August game

maybe it will prepare them for the nfl by toughening them up but in college keeping your receivers fresh so they hustle every play in 105 degree heat is important. What other college team goes with only the starting receivers for the whole game? Maybe that is why we get worse as the game goes on. Still can't believe Emmanuel Sanders played every offensive snap his senior season and returned punts except for last part of the Hawaii Bowl...and did it well but he was exceptional. There is a reason Tech, Baylor and all others rotate in 7-12 receivers a game and at a fast pace. I guess every other coach is just stupid. Run and shoot......maybe this year but I doubt it.

We really didn't have that many offensive plays then--3 and out or a score--yes, I know that isn't guite true, but it was the defense that racked up the number of plays and time on the field
