I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this year

Since safety is pretty set I would definitely hope to see them redshirt Darrion Richardson. Others as well.

I think we can be pretty confident that Minor and some WR redshirts will be burned for sure. Beyond that, either it is for special teams or we have major issues.

if any are burned at S, CB, RB, QB, or LB, things have gone horribly wrong with injuries.

If Hollie's is burned at DT, it will tell us a lot about where the players behind Wright are.

If any on the OL are burned, some of our younger OL aren't as good as advertised.

At least, that would be my thought on it...

It does seem this staff burns redshirts too readily

Agreed. Pope is an example that comes immediately to mind.

With the amount of "diamond in the rough" recruiting that JJ and staff have done over the years, logic would say that we burn a higher number of redshirts than other programs.

i think we're finally getting to the point that a kid has to be able to really make an impact before we burn his RS. good position to be in.

I hope you are right. I would hate to burn a redshirt on a player for only a few plays per year. I have seen us burn redshirts on a player that sparing played only on special teams.

Last true freshman I remembered playing right off the bat was Darryl Fields at Tech...

We have burned several redshirts the past few years.

Acker fumbled a punt or kickoff vs tech.

Right you are. But is that a case of being too eager to have the players available necessary to be bowl-eligible each year? Not sure I know the answer to that, but figured I'd open it up to conversation.

That argument would hold if they were really needed to earn those wins but it seems like they are burned with minimal playing time.

Hence the words "too eager"

I still shake my head with Pope. That was not a case of too eager.
