Could another's misfortune be a plus for Taylor Reed?

ESPNDallas is reporting that Dallas Cowboys LB Alex Albright is done for the season because of back surgery. True, he's not a big name like Sean Lee, but the Dallas coaches really like him, and most thought Albright would make the team.
How this affects SMU's Taylor Reed remains to be seen, but it can't hurt. The common thinking around Valley Ranch is that the Cowboys will carry six linebackers this year ... maybe (but probably not) seven. Sean Lee and Bruce Carter are absolute locks to make the team. Justin Durant, signed as a free agent over the offseason, has been starting in exhibition games and surely will make it, as well. Then there's Ernie Sims, a versatile veteran the team signed last year and liked enough to bring back. He has had a good camp, so let's say he makes it — that's four. DeVonte Holloman was drafted out of South Carolina and has had a great camp, with two interceptions in three exhibition games — in all likelihood, he makes five.
Among those competing with Reed for one spot (or maybe two spots) are Caleb McSurdy, a strong-but-stiff ILB who adds to his value by working as a blocking fullback in short-yardage situations; Deon Lacey, a free agent from something called West Alabama; and Brandon Magee, a highly regarded free agent from Arizona State.
