2 biggest games this year are...

Postby ponyfan777 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 6:18 am

I have gotten about the same answer when asking lots of my SMU friends and that is what's the 2 biggest games you want to see live this season? And most of them answered, Tech and Tcu.

Depends on what your expectations are for the season. If you want to win the AAC and go to a BCS bowl then it would have to be Cincinnati and Rutgers or Rutgers and UCF. If you would be happy with going 7-5 or 8-4 or 9-3 but not winning the conference then TCU and Texas Tech.

Ron Meyer said the most important games for recruiting purposes were the first game of the year, the last game of the year and the game against yur biggest rival.

I think he footnoted a part about payments to players.

Only chance of winning the AAC is to run the table in conference play. Louisville is too good to lose to an AAC opponent. They have 7 home games and only reasonable chance for loss on paper is @Kentucky (and maybe, MAYBE, @Cincinnati to close out the regular season, but we'll have to wait and see what the Bearcats have this year). So winning the conference basically means SMU has to go 12-0 or 11-1 and pray to the football gods that Louisville loses a game or two. I'm sorry, but it's not happening.

With THAT said, both marquee OOC away games are can't-miss. TCU just because it's TCU, and Kyle field is about as great a college football atmosphere as you can get; plus it's only a few hours from DFW. I really hate Tech fans, so the idea of them infesting the boulevard and the stadium sickens me. We need to use the Air Raid to get rid of those pests!

Get it?! RAID...pests... boom, copyright. I just need to print this thread and mail it to myself before the admin goes Einstein on me.

Tech and Rutgers. Start the season off right and then start our new conference off right.

I think that if we go 8-0 in conference and 2-2 in OOC we would too Louisville in the polls, they have such an easy schedule this year.

Tech and Rutgers, because we must win those to be relevant in the AAC. If we win those the rest if our games WILL be important, if not we will be relegated to the mediocrity heap. We have a great schedule and a great opportunity to "be somebody".

Rice and USM.

USM is suppose to be a lot better and is a division powerhouse and Rice because they are our oldest rivalry and they have consistently killed us over the last two decades.

Rutgers and USF in conference. A&M OOC. My prediction is that A&M will be ranked #1 on September 15. And for the first time since 1974, they will face SMU when ranked #1 in the Country. Anyone remember what we did to the Aggies in 1974? Talk about quality wins.

Temple and Memphis.

We always have one or two games each year that we play down to the competition and look totally unprepared to play in (think Rice and Tulane last season). We are going to be up and ready to play Tech. We are going to be up and ready to play TCU. It is these games that we should win and don't that has hampered the growth of the program. Last year we would have been 8-4 rather than 6-6. If we win those two games, we are 7-1 in conference and have the head to head against Tulsa. We go to the CUSA title game.

Temple and Memphis are our Super Bowls, because if we don't win them we have no shot at being bowl eligible.

Right now Tech and MSU. Not a cute remark, but we need those games to build momentum. Ultimately, I hope the most important two games are the AAC Championship Game and the BCS bowl game.
