D Line and O Line

Postby SMU 86 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 8:09 am

I am encouraged by the practice reports on the D Line and O Line. D Line seems to have several players that can rotate into the lineup. As far as the O Line is concerned I thought that since Freddie Johnson and Brian Taylor did not make it into SMU that it might hurt the depth but it seems that is not the case by reading the practice reports. Looking forward to the Tech game and a good opportunity to win.

I think having depth is going to make a huge difference. Fresh bodies, even if not as dominant as last year's players, are a huge asset, especially late in games. Hopefully we can really close out some games this year.

I don't think they are going to be perfect yet, but the line of Weeks, McCarthy, Lasecki, Rice, Briggs looks really nice moving forward.

Some of the depth on the OL isn't quite ready for primetime just yet, but great frames and good athleticism. Just need to add strength and knowledge. That Saena kid looks like he is going to be a beast when he gets rolling. Hughes is an excellent backup on the interior of the line this season.

According to practice reports the DL has major depth. They should be fresh throughout the game with a good rotation.

Do you believe that or are you just saying what the practice reports have implied?

We should start the season in much better shape on the O line than we started last year. We will miss some key studs on the D line but more depth will give us an overall stronger line throughout the game. Sometimes our studs last year were gassed in the fourth quarter.

Also, one can imagine the Mason will redefine the D lines roles so then more athletic Lb corps can play a bigger role this year. That too would help the D line.

Now if the O can be more porductive (especially early in the season) that would help the D more than anything.
