Keys to beating TechOk.. Arm chairs coaches..lets hear them
Here is my 2 cents 1. On Defense lets focus on stopping the run and force a freshman QB to beat us passing. Tech has good RB's. Something tells me a Freshman QB could get rattled and throw some picks. 2. Tech has a new coaching staff and they have to have some rust. Throw some trick plays at them. 3. I hope Gilbert tucks it and runs when receivers are covered. Hopefully this will keep the 3 and outs to a minimum. We need the defense fresh and off the field. Lets hear your thoughts.
Re: Keys to beating TechBring a linebacker rush, drop safeties, and rattle the QB
Re: Keys to beating TechI cant wait to see Traylon Shead....
Re: Keys to beating TechLimit the run for sure but make damn sure we contain their QB (if mayfield starts) make him beat us with his arm.
Re: Keys to beating TechScore first. Bring pressure. Game over.
Re: Keys to beating Tech
Score often.
Re: Keys to beating TechScore more than Texas Tech...
Re: Keys to beating TechI can't remember the exact statistic, but they kept talking about it in the first quarter of the Fresno game . . . something crazy like we've only lost once in the JJ era when we scored first . . . I don't remember exactly but it was huge. I remember thinking to myself: "ok, let's just score and this game is over". Once we finally did, it was.
Re: Keys to beating TechScore first. Force the Freshman TT QB to put it up quick. Go after the QB, go after the QB. TT will be shaken early if this happens. Limit them to three when they score. Let GG run. If GG connects enough with Shead, it's a winner.

Re: Keys to beating TechWhen we have been in games against TTU, it has ben because our D played well and 'shut' down the TTU potent offense (relatively speaking). So....
Use our experienced and athletic secondary to disguise the coverage and take advantage of young QB mistakes. Keep D line fresh so they can occupy O linemen and let our experienced and very athletic Lb corps do its job. No mistakes on speciality teams. Don't need great plays, just need solid mistake free special teams play THe O has to move the ball. Early 3 and outs are killer. Overall, if TTU has a young QB in there, we have to put the pressure on him to make mistakes. As GG got pressure early in the season last year, he made many mistakes. Pressure doesn't have to be blitzes, it can be in multiple coverages with disguised looks.
Re: Keys to beating Tech
PonyTE took the words right out of my mouth. -Limit 3 and outs (and for everyone's sake PLEASE DO NOT THROW DEEP ON 3rd and less than 3 JJ) to keep the D fresh -Limit Turnovers, especially early. While momentum is a completely bogus idea that only is selectively applied, the longer we stay in the game/get out to a quick start, the more confident our guys will be/the more the home crowd will be into it. Re: Keys to beating Techour qb has to be better than their qb.

pretty impressive overall analysis. thanks nacho you're welcome
Re: Keys to beating TechScore first and score last. Preferably a meaningless TD in the last few seconds as we are up by a couple of TDs, just to run up the score to give a nod to the Pirate.
