Texas A&M chancellor: Johnny Manziel "innocent"August 23, 2013 - By Brett LoGiurato Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has a big defender in the school’s chancellor, John Sharp. Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel found a defender in Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp, who told a local television station on Thursday that Manziel is “innocent.†“ I know he’s innocent,†Sharp told College Station news station KBTX. “I know that he didn’t do what they accused him of doing.†Manziel is alleged to have participated in autograph sessions in exchange for money, which is prohibited by the NCAA. He has participated in a reported total of six autograph sessions. The NCAA is investigating Manziel in connection with the alleged signing sessions, and will not comment on the case. Manziel has not addressed the media since the allegations first surfaced, in an ESPN report, earlier this month. The Aggies open the season in College Station on Aug. 31 against Rice. On Thursday, SEC coaches snubbed Manziel by voting him to the conference’s preseason second team. Georgia’s Aaron Murray was the first-team choice at quarterback. http://tracking.si.com/2013/08/22/johnn ... nl_siextra

If he's innocent then go ahead and say that he'll play against Rice. I'm sure he signed 4,000 autographs for free.

I bet the Chancellor is attempt to assuage the football boosters, who are and always have been the real power at Texas A&M. No doubt they've been telling him that he needs to get out there and defend Manziel. If something happens to Manziel, I imagine the Chancellor is worried that the football boosters will accuse him of not being aggressive enough in his defense of Manziel and the program.

Pony ^ wrote:aggy will return to their average 5-7 seasons very quickly I doubt it since they have one of the best young coaches in college football who is landing top recruits. No doubt they'd miss Johnny, but not for long. Over the long haul, unless the stinking Longhorns can get the NCAA to slow them down, Coach Sumlin is going to keep the Aggies rocking for quite awhile.. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2013/t ... -no-1-6-3/

Does this remind anyone of former Ohio State President Gee? "I hope Coach Tressel doesn't fire me." He used his one get out of jail free card on that one. The next time he said something stupid he got canned.
When this thing blows up, the Chancellor just used up his one get out of jail free card.
Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall

And just HOW does he "KNOW" he is innocent? Was he there at the time he was signing those autographs? Perhaps he "feels" he is innocent but there is no way he could "know".
Long live Inez Perez!

Hell would freeze over before our administration ever went on a limb for an athlete.
But, I find it obvious he is guilty because the head coach, the AD and the Chancellor never, ever asked him if he did it or not--they simply didn't want to ask...

Wah Wah, he is innocent. I agree with the previous posters, heavy hitters put pressure on him to come out and defend him. I also agree, our administration would rather have a cattle prod placed in a certain body cavity than stand up for the athletes

Arkpony brings the logic one would see from a judge. Facts matter, BS walks.
He (A$M pres) has to support someone that is worth 37 million in dollars to the PR of A$M. Regardless of the big bucks donors, Johnny is worth more to A$M at this moment. And quick bucks are killer for universities.
The NCAA will do what it does. It will leak that is has evidence that Johnny 'money badger' committed violations then announce that the NCAA screwed up the investigation and can't pursue the allegations because the process was so flubbed up.
