SMU Needs A Times Square Sized Video For 75 & Mockingbird

Postby smumustang1980 » Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:20 pm

SMU needs a Times Square sized video screen for advertising SMU events near the 75 and Mockingbird intersection. We have the real estate, and have a building further north on 75 with an SMU logo. Why not find the right angle, to maximize views from down there in the 75 trench, use this building or a new location and run SMU events day and night? We have prime real estate, let's use it. The impact would be tremendous.

And, I don't mean something modest in scale - make it enormous. Make a statement. Run it 20 stories down that building or use that vacant spot right at the intersection... SMU... Football... Basketball... videos!

If New York can have Times Square without lawsuits, I am sure we can find a solution.

No different than the video billboards on 75 except for the size...

Great idea on Central if it passes city ordinances-not going to happen near Ford

Didn't the Omni use to have TV playing on the outside of the building all the time, but they had to stop because people kept watching and getting in traffic accidents?

I like the spirit of the idea though

Not sure about NY, but doubt they are blasting through Times Square at 65 MPH. Face it towards Mockingbird where a person can watch the videos while stopped at the traffic signal.

Not that everything has to revolve around Mudaiy, but

IF WE GET TURNER THAN THEY NEED TO DO THAT WITH BASKETBALL, put their pictures on a billboard along with any other DFW kids we have on the team, and put their High Schools up under their names (if possible), such as

MUDAIY TURNER
Dallas Euless

or

MUDAI TURNER
Prime Prep Trinity

That should be their advertisement as 'Dallas's team. It would also help if they were successful in college and went to the Mavs, but that's a ways out.

Maybe not Times Square signage but definitely should have some video boards facing 75. That's a great idea. Could advertise football and basketball during the seasons as well as Meadows exhibits, Tate lecture, degree programs, etc. this seems like a no brainer to me

So let's communicate this to AD Hart... Will you join with me in sending this message?

Make Hart chase down some money for this idea. 'Tis a good one.

I would say just a permanent digital billboard that SMU owns right there in that area

Great idea. Don't hide SMU from Dallas. Let them know we are here.

There used to be yes. As someone who works for a large media company next to the Omni in Atlanta, I can tell you that board is long gone.

CNN/Turner has a huge video board on the highway as you drive downtown. The ad changes every 15-30 seconds, so as to not create crashes.

In that case, maybe we should put it (them) in some place not right next to SMU. 35? Downtown? Arlington? People in the park cities know we exist, the rest of Dallas needs to be reminded

Putting one on 75 would also still be a good idea
