Un freaking believable

Postby ponyboy » Thu Aug 29, 2013 5:18 pm

Since Ford Stadium opened, I have been a season ticket holder. My dear parents have purchased the tickets for my August birthday every one of those years, a really nice gesture on their part even though I am fully able to afford to do so myself. This year was apparently no exception to the pattern since, just like you, I received my tickets and have been making plans to attend tomorrow night's opener.

Today I get a call from a very nice guy who tells me that a mistake was made in sending the tickets since they were never paid for and that I owe $670 immediately if I want to attend tomorrow night's game. Let me repeat, I get a call the day before the game that the tickets are invalid unless I pay up $670. Annyoying, yes, but not normally a problem financially. However I just laid down several thousand dollars for my kids' schools and I don't have $670 today -- but I offer to pay the surprise balance in two weeks with my next paycheck. The answer is no, we are going to release the tickets to the general population and you are no longer a season ticket holder at SMU.

Wow. Just wow.

Not only terrible customer service, but a terrible way to treat an alumnus and season ticket holder.

So here's the resolution. The SMU rep called back and said if I pay $200 tomorrow, I could pay the rest by the end of September and retain my seats. I'm not sure what to think about all of this -- the guy I talked to provided actually excellent customer service, including giving me his personal cell. The problem was apparently with the ticket office contact he was talking to.

That sounds a lot more reasonable.

Ridiculous to treat season ticket holders like that

Not very good customer service, but in the first completely sold out game in Ford Stadium history I would hope no one is attending the game without having to have paid for their season tickets.

Sadly this type of attitude has existed for years. My former father in law used to buy 10-15 books of season tickets for his company. They had done this for years. One year they told him that they could no longer give him tickets between the 35's but they could give him tickets outside of the 20's. He told them to stuff it and no longer bought tickets to the games. He was not an SMU alum but his daughter attended. Typical of the SMU attitude in the ad dept. And we wonder why Dallas doesn't support us!

Let's bring the whining down a notch. The two hundred dollars is a reasonable compromise. It was most likely a student worker who had never faced this situation before who turned him down initially.

Whining?? really- the attitude of the ad dept regarding past patrons is a joke. Not whining- not my money and I don't really care. Just sayin' - we wonder why people don't embrace our university- that is one simple example.

Was that because the required donation went up?
