We outgained TT 490 to 461 yards. 388 yards passing, 102 rushing (Tech had 48 yards rushing). Both had 31 first downs. We has 31:23 TOP to Tech's 28:37.

In my opinion, Gilbert did alright, but had no time. The O-Line is going to be a problem.

Too many sacks of the QB to be a good team this year.

Gilbert looked much improved and the stat line confirms it. Johnson had a better game than I thought (all those drops are what I remember)

This one wasn't Gilbert's doing. He played well. THe O line was miserable. Gilbert's sacks in the first half were off delayed blitzes where the blitzer was untouched. That is the blockers fault. Someone blow their blocking assignment. Blocking got better withLine in the game.

WE had no running game except for Gilbert. And that allowed TTU to blitz dang near every play. That put enormous pressuere on our shaky O line.

On a good note, absolutely no turnovers. No ints. No lost fumbles.

Our special teams hurt us and stupid penalties killed us.

And the worse was we got crushed in the field position game. The first half we were starting inside our 20 for most possessions. The difficulties of a long field became evident as TTU's O had great field position most the game and much shorter fields. And they scored more.

We had our chance to go ahead. We blow that. We had a chance to put 3 on the board and be within one. Blow that. And stupid personal fouls (late hit on he QB as an example) hurt.

Tis was a a game we could have won but we needed to play better.

The biggest disappointment was how unprepared the D was. It was like Bennett's team against Navy so many years ago.

agree - how hard is it to predict they are going to do the hurry up. and by the way - why is it we can never hurry up ourselves?

special teams was not good. Really poor punts. Missed TWENTY SEVEN yd field goal. no return yardage.

I don't think Gilbert threw a single WTF pass all night, he definitely was making better decisions. WR separation is going to be a problem (need to get better at this with more horizontal routes or YPA will suffer) as will run and pass blocking (was worried about this for awhile). Also need to start blocking better on these flare/bubble/middle screens. Tech blocked theirs well and it showed.

not much vertical passing though except for Jeremy's big catch. He was just playing pass and catch over the defensive line. He wasn't attacking the defense downfield

A good over and under is how many times you hear from sec 206 - "quit throwing sideways; throw down the field!"

He didn't have time to go deep. TTU brought 5 or 6 rushers most the second half. They knew we had issues pic=ing up the blitz so they just kept coming after GG.

Gilbert had difficulty transitioning from the short route to the deep route. A couple of times he held the ball, receivers were open further down the field.

I know the end was trash time, but it might end up helping because he let it go a little bit and let receivers make plays.

Holman was good. Showed really nice hands, some strength. Much improved.

The offensive line was committing to help too early and that killed us on delayed blitzes and stunts. One time in particular, 75 went to help the guard and didn't recognize the stunt. The DL went to GG untouched. Hopefully that will get resolved over the next game or so.

I don't understand the razzing on the D. They fell apart in the 4th quarter when things got desperate and we had some 3rd stringers in. But they really battled for most of the game and kept us in it. If the offense had been able to piece things together more consistently, we would have won.
