Silver Linings

Postby PerunaPunch » Sat Aug 31, 2013 12:19 am

We armchair QBs will no doubt spend the rest of the week complaining about refs, play calling, coaching and whatnot. But I think we also ought to devote a little cyberspace to the positives.

1) Kudos to the receiving corps who stepped up big time compared to last year. Even when the ball wasn't on the money, more times than not, they were able to snag it. Huges area of improvement IMHO.

2) Garrett Gilbert. He may not have won the game, but he certainly didn't loose it either. I'll be curious to see the stats, but he must have thrown for close to 400 yards, had a high completion percentage and no picks. Good running as usual. Was a few feet short on a comple of the long completions, which otherwise would've gone all the way. I don't recall him having to go to the sidelines once.

3) No 3-and-outs if I recall correctly. This Run and Raid or Air and Shoot, does seem to control the clock better than what we've had in the past and let's our D get a breather.

there were areas of improvement for sure. there were also areas of set backs. our D was not stellar. Our Special teams were worse. Our offense looked better, but not in the running game. Play calling was ok - but nothing special.

next week is a must win. the next game after that will be horrific. then we will start to see what we have.

1) Which receivers were you watching? Plenty of drops on perfect passes.

2) Agreed

3) According to ESPN, three 3 and Outs.

Flying tortillas did not blind anyone.

Tech showed was classless people they are - booing injured players.

Tech fans were too hot to really get their RAIDER-Power chant going. They were pretty quiet actually

While there were several injuries tonight, we did seem to have players on the ground a lot - especially of the Tech offense started getting momentum. Those players typically walked off the field on their own and had minimal interaction with the trainers when they got to the sidelines.

I thought we handled the bubble screens much better than we have in years past. Several did end up burning us at the end of the game, but especially in the first half I liked how our corners and LBs were fighting through the blocks and attacking the receiver at or behind the line of scrimmage instead of 3-5 yards downfield.

If we lose to a D1AA team next week after having gone to 4 bowls in a row there should be no silver linings.
