Uh, did you watch the game? All I have read today is vitriol towards June and an assessment that the offense is the same approach as the last five years. Seriously? 93 plays vs. 70 from last year? 490 yards of total offense against a Big XII defense versus an average of 367 last year? 63% completion percentage for Gilbert as opposed to last year's 53%? A hurry up, quick tempo offense as compared to calling the quarterback over after every play? Playing numerous receivers versus sticking with four throughout the game? Come on, guys...open your eyes.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game? All improvements. .... But how many TDs?

Re: Uh, did you watch the game?I guess Tech should go undefeated this year with that walk on QB they have.

Re: Uh, did you watch the game?Lot of empty yardage, RZ offense still sucked, no running game. 3 FGs and 1 TD before garbage time.

Re: Uh, did you watch the game?Agree top twenty. Good points.
Tech is a bcs-BS team w/ that recruiting advantage. We ain't at this time. Hopefully someday. BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?that's a good example of stats not reflecting the actual game. anyone who watched the game knows that our offense was still painfully inefficient. I do appreciate:
1) Gilbert not running back and forth 2) WR play was much better than last year I do not appreciate: 1) Bad play calling. (can we just knock it off with the screen pass?) 2) Horrible clock management.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?
Too many drops, like last year.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game? There were a decent amount of drops but I also thought there were some nice grabs under pressure that would have all been dropped last year.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?
Quit bringing stats and facts in here when that runs the risk of interrupting the whining of those who had their June Hate Agenda written out well before they got to the Boulevard. The QB at Tech is going to be pretty good. Apparently he wanted to go to TCU (why??) and allegedly UT wanted him as a walk-on. For Game 1 of the JJ/Mumme offense, we did some things really well. That does not make losing any more palatable or acceptable, but there were reasons for encouragement. We have to get better, and it seems probable that we will.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?A. They're not going to "knock it off with the screen pass." That's a staple of Mumme's offense that is designed to get the defensive front seven chasing from side to side and wear them down a little. When Mumme says his offense is more side to side and JJ's is more vertical, that's exactly how. He does screen passes and crossing routes all day to find space underneath the defense, hopefully drawing the secondary forward, and then takes shots downfield.
WR play WAS much better. Yes, there were some drops, but nothing like last year. Jeremy Johnson and Darius Joseph were studs. Keenan Holman was good. Arrius Holleman even made a nice grab. Last edited by ClassOf81 on Sat Aug 31, 2013 1:08 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?Lol we got our as*es handed to us by a true freshman, walk on QB playing his first collegiate game - ever - under the tutelage of a 34 year old rookie head coach in his collegiate debut, going up against two QB/Offensive gurus (June being in his SIXTH year, having recruited 160+ players to fit his system), and the true frosh walk on was better, sharper, crisper, and much more efficient at running a fast paced, quick tempo offense than we ever have been in the last 5 years and one game.
But cue the people lining up to try and explain away reality.
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?
Funny thing is that walk on true Freshman QB wasn't good enough to get an offer from June who went 2000 miles to get a QB from the Washington boonies that no one else wanted. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Uh, did you watch the game?
Quite bringing up facts sbsmith. It messes up hard core JJ supporters. #HammerDown
Re: Uh, did you watch the game?Reality:
The freshman is pretty good, and showed why he won the starting job over the scholarship kid. Yes, he had a good day. He also had big, very athletic o-line that looked like they had played together before (although our defense got through a few times) and some really good receivers. You make it sound like Kingsbury is some novice graduate assistant. The reason he got the job there might have something to do with the fact that he played at TT, but also because it appears he's a damn good coach. They promote coordinators to head coaches for a reason. Maybe they made a good hire, because maybe he really does know what he's doing. We had 3 new offensive linemen, WRs who we have to admit didn't have a great year last year and Gilbert all running an offense that looked a lot different than what we saw last year. But cue the hate from those who were going to complain even if GG threw for nearly 400 yards and the offense put up nearly 500 (without the starting RB for most of the second half) on a BCS defense the first time out.
