Lots of complaints about June. Oh, how we forget 0-12 and 1-11. Not defending him and upset about the game yesterday, but we would have gotten blown out before he came. We had 1-2 guys in the NFL before he got here.

Coach Bennett deserves credit for recruiting some of those players. Just sayin'.

Maybe so, but JJ developed them enough to get them to NFL.

I hate to agree with a Dukie (sorry), but DBB is right. Before JJ got here, we would have lost last night by 40.

He may have recruited them, but he was not preparing them well for the next level.

Oh goody we have some players in the NFL now (mostly roster fringers and role players). Those guys didn't win too much when they were here unfortunately. 0 conference titles, 0 weeks ranked, 1-9 record versus Tech, TCU, A&M and Baylor, 6-25 record versus winning teams, 8-22 in road games.

We have more players in the NFL then the following. Not powerhouses, but schools most think have better talent.

Arizona
Baylor
BYU
Colorado
Iowa State
Kansas State (tie)
Kentucky (tie)
Louisville
Minnesota
SDSU
Southern Miss
Syracuse
Temple
TCU
Texas Tech
Vanderbilt
Washington
Washington State

I agree with the subject, if not the tone. I am thrilled we have so many in the nfl but his job is to win games, not put people in the nfl. Sure, you would expect those two things to be correlated, but if they are not then putting a lot of people in the nfl does not make up for too few wins.

The whole point is that the skill level from when you took over to where we are today is CLEARLY better. I don't think he is a good recruiter and I am NOT a June defender, but unless you were around from the 90's until now, you don't know the real pain.

He has taken this team from nothing to something and thus we should show some respect. Now, it is time to think about moving on to someone who is hungry and can recruit and potentially take us one step further.

The purpose of the thread, which is absolutely irrefutable, is that we have better talent now than when he got here.

I think most people are at the end of their rope with June, it's hard to show respect for a guy who doesn't give enough of a damn about this university to get out there and sell it to BCS quality recruits. What difference does it make if the talent is better than before if we're still getting beaten down by opponents that people actually care about?

Do you not think June has peaked at SMU? That's the fear. Yes we are better than six years ago. But we haven't improved in 3 years. Mediocrity is not the goal.

I think he has absolutely peaked. He is a great turnaround guy, getting a lot from less talent, but he is not hungry to go after the next 4 or 5 star guy that will make his team even better.

it's not about getting "the next 4 or 5 star guy". It's about getting consistently good/serviceable players to fill the roster. check out TCU's recruiting over the past decade. No 5 stars, a handful of 4 stars, but solid players WITH OTHER BCS OFFERS to give them some solid depth.

Yes finding guys like Zach and Margus are great. It's fun to point to our guys in the NFL (although the number in the NFL after the latest round of cuts is significantly less), but what we need is to knock it off with this diamond in the rough-filling our roster with players no one else wants. Ain't going to cut it if we want to ever beat a team that isnt in the bottom of a non-aq conference.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Yeah, it's great to get guys that are overlooked and turn them into a solid player. But you can only have a handful of projects like that in the works and not expect every guy on your roster to be a guy you hope turns out to prove everyone else wrong.
