Obviously Gaines at WR and Zelt at DL. I didn't pay attention to other true freshmen playing

There is a redshirt thread already if you will scroll down a bit. Supposedly Zelt did not play, Gaines and 2 or 3 others did. I do not remember all.

How is playing a freshman significant minutes burning? Shouldn't we have the best out there?

You are correct. Burning a redshirt was Pope. Gaines is not because he will play a lot.

McCarthy at OG played right?
If they are going to play they need to play by Game 3 and then they need to play significant minutes
otherwise your burning a redshirt

And although rare, a player has 5 years to play 4, so just as an example, Gaines could play this year and then redshirt next year. Again, very rare, but it has happened. And I am just using Gaines' name as an example. No reason to believe he will do anything other than 4 straight years.

I don't believe Zelt burned his RS in the Tech game.

Seems like I've seen participation charts by position on some college statistical reports, sometimes including the number of snaps for everyone who got in the game. Never been part of the SMU reports I remember on smumustangs, com, though. Can some one tell me why?
