I was on Tim Brando today asking about SMU / JJ

Postby ponyinNC » Mon Sep 02, 2013 11:23 am

And the first thing Tim mentioned was the holding call on Prescott Line - Brando said it was the worst call of the weekend. I was trying to ask whether we'd plateaued under Jones - but Brando got sidetracked and said the bad call(s) changed the entire game.

Glad he saw it too

Seven FCS teams won this weekend - great interviews with the coach from North Dakota State and Eastern Washington

Don't mention this to stallion.

I completely agree. For good or for bad June Jones' teams play with momentum. When things are good he really piles it on and when they tailspin it gets bad in a hurry.

He said:

Ryan, how much of the game did you watch? I said from start to finish. And that's when he brought up the holding call- saying how the terrible call changed the complexity of the entire game. I was shocked that he even would have seen that. He said a lot of bad calls against SMU in that one, but ther with our schedule we really needed to win that one.

Said tech will be pretty good under KK. He does not think we will make a bowl.

Somebody please tell Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News. He must have gone to the potty during that play.

I read an ESPN article on the game. They had a quote from JJ which mentioned the call, but didn't even bother to reference it in the article for context.

What is it with us and horrible officiating - e g the face mask non-call last year against Baylor.

The same thing it is with every team. Confirmation bias.

Ever notice that every single football team fan board you get on has this same conversation going? Missed calls, phantom calls, specific examples from last year or the year before, etc etc etc.

Bad calls happen to every team at every level. It's part of the game. It all evens out in the end.

F confirmation bias. Watch the dang game. If you think that we didn't get hosed you didn't watch the game. I already know your bias is being a [deleted] so your post confirms that for me.

Treadway- yes, we got hosed on some calls and the refs probably missed a few more as well. But it is what it is. We will have some go against us and some go for us. Our team should not vaporize just because they get a bad call or two. That is the time they really need to pull together and show that we can win in spite of some adversity.

OT- are any of you all still meeting at the cigar shop in Snider plaza for drinks and 'gars?

Red, I agree. Ref's didn't lose the game for us and our guys committed some real dumb undisciplined penalties, but that call was especially horrible (there were some others and sine missed calls) and did affect the game. And for BT to say those were just normal missed calls is just total BS. Bad calls can change games.

Their hurry up is what lost the game for us. That call and the subsequent missed fowls goal made a difference and a difference in the perception of the dial outcome.

As for cigars, unfortunately the place went out of business. I had a cigar on the BLVD as usual. I was disappointed that Dub was cigarless. Are you going to make a game this year?
