When is PF going to get a grip?

Postby Mustangsabu » Mon Sep 02, 2013 11:43 pm

Wait until the season is over, for pity's sake. Nobody ever wants to wait before demanding heads roll. We don't know how this season will end up. We do know we lost to Tech. But those who were at the game should have seen it was a better showing than we have mustered under JJ in an OOC game previously. I hate losing but if we are better than we were last year I hardly see the point in firing JJ. The fact is, no matter how much many of the bloodhounds on here hate it, that we can judge nothing about the state of the program until the season is in the books.

Stop bringing up LB, it has no relevance. Enjoy the optimism about our BBall program but comparisons are ignorant.

Support the team. They played well in many areas on Friday and it is their first game in his new mode of playing. Montana State beckons and our voices will be appreciated.

Giving up on your coach and team after one game isn't the opposite of embracing mediocrity. Next guy to bring up that lame "argument" gets his degree yanked

No one is giving up dude. We are in a terrible conference and should win at least 6 total games this year. But after 6 seasons that does not mean you have to be happy with the product you are seeing by the coaches.

Embrace reality :!:

Who you gonna call GHOSTBUSTERS to find Vince Lombardi to come back from the dead to coach
us :!: All I hear is a few 20 something or less know it alls on here who think screaming fire the
coach is the solution to everything.

Until the football equivalent of LB (won both the NFL, and NCAA championships) decides he
wants to coach SMU we will NOT be able to recruit with the big boys. Maybe we could
go back to the Ron Meyer model, and lose the program forever.
May the forth be with us.

NCAA won't give out the "death penalty" again. . . Plenty of programs since SMU have deserved to receive it, but none have so far.

James Franklin has a similar football model and he hasn't won NFL or NCAA championships. But he has a good assertive staff and he is very progressive. It's not so much about LB but the staff he has put together. Again, see James Franklin.

So you're suggesting going back to the Ron Meyer model :?:

No, James Franklin is not cheating but bringing Vandy success they have never had. He relates to the fans and recruits. He is energetic and sharp. There are guys out there like him who just need the opportunity. We have about a year until JJ's contract is over so we better start looking now instead of being stagnant. I hope the process has begun.

The abject gloom and doom on this board after the Tech game was extreme. Some fans knocked Gilbert mercilessly even though the kid played well. Some said they were done after the first game of the season and a performance that wasn't as bad as the reaction.

I know some of this was the result of visceral fan devotion, but the pessimism expressed was way over the line and potentially detrimental to the program.

This is going to be an interesting season of SMU football and I think this team -- which is missing a few mainstays from the previous seasons -- will do pretty well. how well? I have no idea, but I'll still pull for the Mustangs as I always have.

I guess the key phrase here is "He hasn't played against" .

Franlkin won 9 games last year which I believe was the most in Vanderbilt history. And he did that going through the SEC. I like JJ but I am not going to say negative things about James Franklin because he has done a phenomenal job at Vanderbilt.

I'm not giving up on this team. I am disappointed in a loss Saturday. We did do a lot that was very positive. The O moved the ball consistently. The D made some great stops particularly on the goal line.

We have to improve pass pressure, O line play and special teams. And GG had a really good game. I hope that contiunes.

And get some folks healthy.

One thing that was clear is key injuries really affects our team. I hope we can rest injured this week and get them ready for other more competitive games.
